So Sunday we go down to 3-2 to Leeds, prior to the game Barton is all uppety over not being named captain & Cabaye given free-kick & corner duties. At half time there is an alleged tirade at half time & after the game.
No other players came out and backed Joey (to my knowledge) Only Jose has publically commented on signings/transfer policy etc. Simmo tweeted something about "keep our side of the street clean", interupted by some to be a dig at the guys playing on the left but easily mean't "Joey shut your face and don't muckspread team affairs on twitter".

Anyone think there is a possibility that the squad finally had enough of Joey's attitude towards the club/contracts/new signings and general Joey big-mouthedness (yes that is a word)? And key guys, maybe new signings went to Pardew or whoever and said that they weren't happy with the way Barton was acting and it was affecting morale? Would make more sense than Ashley just decided he'd had enough and was going to get rid without making any money on the sale. He weighed up the options with Pards and decided that Joey's disruptive influence was affecting the team and they'd (the players) had said as much and it was just time to bite the bullet, take the hit of losing a few mill compared to having civil war (bit extreme but discontentment) in the squad.

No player is bigger than the Club and this is something Joey hasn't understood due to getting Player of the Year and a few good reviews (some by himself) over the season. As we don't know what goes on behind closed doors most of whats been posted in the last 24 hours is hypothetical or conjecture so I thought I throw another possibility in there.

I think you may well be right. It is backed by the fact that Barton has effectively been quarantined by being told to train alone.

The management obviously want to reduce or eliminate his influence on the rest of the squad.

If you add to that that Cabaye is the only new signing that will have had much exposure to Barton prior to the game because most were in the USA while Barton was in Holland because he couldn't get a visa his attitude may have come as a shock to some. <shrug> who knows?

thought about this as well but we'll never know just seems odd the glue that held team morale together the last 2 seasons nolan/barton have gone/going wonder what the situation was with chris did they have sway or not pure speculation of course

I actually believe this might have something to do with it. Since Nolan went he's tried to be the top dog in the dressing room, but I don't think players like him as much as they did Nolan.

Obviously this theory isn't as popular as just having a rave that Mike Ashley is the devil incarnate and has been sent directly from beelzebub's bum to destroy the Toon army <shrug>

Haha <laugh> It's the quality of the people who agree with you and not the quantity though Alfie.

Looking on other articles though it seems that the worm has turned and more and more are coming to accept that Barton is as much (or more) to blame though so you may start getting some feedback soon! :)

I can see this being true. It's definitely more likely than Ashley arbitrarily deciding to get rid (especially with the whole training alone thing)

It's as believable as any other theory going around at the moment. And I've stayed very quiet on this so far but I will say that I'd actually prefer it if this scenario was how things played out
