In the Newbury 2:30, I have a dilemma. The winner looks like one of the front two in the betting: Singyoursong has bottom weight seeking a hat-trick whilst Golden Stunner also seeks a hat-trick but concedes seven pounds. The problem is that the latter won for a 5lb claimer last time so is in fact 10lb higher today for winning in a photo but is clearly improving rapidly. May have to toss a coin at 2:29... Never understood why Godolphin bought the gelding Scottish as he is worth nothing at stud. He ran poorly first time for them when the Appleby stable was out of form but I think I can definitely pass him up after a lay off at paltry odds of 11/8 in a race (Newbury 3:00) where most of them have questions to answer. In the following race, THE TIN MAN is more my sort of price if I am prepared to accept that his last two defeats were down to easy ground (may have been out of depth in a Group 1 latest) but his only pattern race win was a Listed race so he needs to step up again. Did Charming Thought need the race last time after two years off? I guess they can afford to persevere with Buratino even though it looks like he has not trained on, I cannot see the drop in trip being good news for Ibn Malik, whilst Illuminate has it all to prove but takes a big drop in class and is back on her favoured quick ground. The Newmarket 3:15 does not look as competitive as the numbers or the betting suggest and it was quite easy to narrow it down to four, albeit four of the first five in the betting! The big negative about Firmament is that the recent form is on polytrack not turf and his only turf win was a 2yo maiden for Jeremy Noseda. Ifwecan was just touched off over course and distance last time (when I should have done the winner!) and should be in at the finish if that was not a fluke run (was 20/1). If the plan with Franklin D is to try and make all, he may set the race up for GRAND INQUISITOR, provided Michael Stoute’s charge is kept near to the pace rather than dropped to the rear. I acknowledge that two of my picks have already been given by Grecian Mick.
Having a few wagers today, fuk it why not it's a Saturday! MRasen 2.15-Hassle 15/2 Ew-The good doctor won this last year and is 2/2 with 10lb claimer In 3.55 Byron Flyer won by 10lts here in May and should go very close again so win bet at 5s Newbury 4.10- Miss Dancers Ew 9s. Hard to believe this filly only cost a grand!2/2 and runs off a lovely weight, should go close. Curragh 3.30-Club Wexford win 6/1.Bolger is flying it at the minute and though this lad isn't the most consistent he went close over c&d a few weeks back and can land this.
Gwafa 2.15 Market Rasen 5/1 Seven pounds higher than his win in the Swinton. Its a tough enough task to follow that up but being three from five over hurdles, he may not be have reached his potential yet. Taj Mahal 2.55 The Curragh 7/4 This one was well backed on debut when he fell out if the stalls and didn't have a clue what he was doing. O'Brien sends out a fair few who like this who come on heap from their first run. This isn't a strong race. The Tin Man 3.35 Newbury 3/1 Ran a shocker last time but is still the class act in the race.
****ing racing post at it again hahahaha everytime he has a ride he's their stat selection, started at £90 profit and they've tipped him everytime in at least one of his rides a day now £72 This season, Robert Winston (Sirius Prospect) is showing a profit of £72.23
Skeltons cleaning up!Didnt back it but have a soft spot for Long House Hall, broke my heart when he came second in the coral, should have won it
Really looking forward to seeing TAQAAREED at Newbury. I thought she looked pretty special last time at Kempton. I hope she can take the step up in class in her stride.
Late breaking news (very late from my mate!): The Curragh 4:05 Brando (“5 ***** bet”) – too short for me against Mecca’s Angel. Also Kibaar for The Curragh 5:10 each way (not even looked at that one!).
Dear Sir Michael Stoute, Can you not read horse form? Your horse Grand Inquisitor has run most of his best races when he has been positioned near the leaders. He has run poorly when held up in the middle/rear of the field. So what instructions should you give the jockey? Grand Inquisitor might not have beaten Franklin D but he arguably would not have been behind a wall of horses being scrubbed along by Ted Durcan going nowhere as they met the rising ground. Fergie will be even redder in the face now – his nose might have exploded. Could it be that you have some sort of dementia and should really be retiring and leaving this horse training malarkey to somebody that is still in charge of all their faculties? Yours, QM
Late breaking news (very late from my mate!): The Curragh 4:05 Brando (“5 ***** bet”) - bet your glad it was a shorty!!!
In all honesty, Gaz, he sends me quite a lot of short-priced ones that I just ignore but I thought I would share this one with the forum because it was second favourite in a small field, I saw it win at Sandown on Eclipse day (so it is a good horse), but on the easy ground I could not see it turning over Mecca’s Angel.
