I think one of the reasons is that after the Iraq war - when the French stood up to the USA and refused to support their illegal invasion, the USA have pressured the French into supporting their military action, and recently the French seem to have taken a lead (out of the European countries) in bombing places like Syria, Libya and (I think, but correct me if I'm wrong) putting troops on the ground.

I also believe that France has always had a problem with racism and there has always been an issue with the amount of people from ex-French colonial countries living in France such as Algerians, Moroccans ect so I suppose it's a melting pot of racial tensions which, during an economic downturn, is easy to magnify those feelings in angry, disassociated young men and to turn those feelings into hateful rage.

I personally think that things will get much, much worse for Syria and the ME after attacks like this, but then you can say that their countries are getting blown up by Western forces already, so some uneducated, angry young men may feel that striking back - even if it's in the most immoral, evil way against innocent victims, is their only way - despite all logic which says otherwise.

.. don't be daft lad ... even if the perpetrator attempts to claim some religious motive it still comes down to the fact that he is nothing more than a pathetic **** attempting to justify the unjustifiable in order to give meaning to his worthless existence on this earth...

Anybody believing in "god" must surely realise that the slaughter of innocents cannot possibly mean a glorious after life .. only eternal damnation.

For the avoidance of doubt - I extend that sentiment to those in the 'governments of this world too ...

Latest reports suggest there well may have been a significant number of muslims amongst those killed ... such barbarous acts are indiscriminate ...

Probably the same one as any extremist killings done with a thin veil of religion - be it the KKK, IRA, Al Qaeda, the buddist terrorists in Burma - hell even G Bush said God told him to go to war in Iraq!

    ****ing madness!

I would happily launch the nukes it would take in order to wipe out the entire middle-east.

That's why you're a bin cleaner and not involved in important decisions.

And if you really mean that then you are every bit of a fanatical lunatic as those that have committed terrorism.
The mass murder of innocent men, women and children is sick whether it is called "jihad" or "collateral damage".

Don't understand why you quoted my post and responded about bin cleaners being paid £35k a year

Look, before we start judging the actions of the guy because Mohammed happens to be in his name, lets find out whether reports he was some sort of paranoid schizophrenic who would often resort to violent episodes without his meds, are true?

As has been mentioned on another thread, will we be expected to go and support the government since they are a member of NATO?
Has this ever happened to a NATO member before?

That's a great point, never realised that. My immediate response to that is 2 fold...

    1) Does it benefit us that the coup takes control? (As it did in Egypt)
    2) What would we have done if this NATO country was on the border with Russia and the coup leaders were Putin sympathisers.

Call me a cynic mate (sure I've said that twice this week now) but I think our moral compass is dictated purely by self-interest.

So was god on the side of the loyalist terrorists in NI or did you just forget to include them on your list?
Seems you forgot to include Israel also?

The world is full of lunacy at this time and keeping a lid on it might just have got out of hand with the military coup in Turkey, get in the fallout shelter and pray to your god!

Not sure the rules will allow us to act in self interest, I think the way to do that would be to stall any talks at NATO by saying lets negotiate.
If we do that for long enough (shouldn't be a problem as any decisions take months anyway) it will all be settled and then we wouldn't want to stir things up again
