We have talked to both club and him. But he is messing us about and waiting for a bigger club the last time I heard.

 

Quite frankly, the second he isnt that arsed he can do 1.

 

His agent has most likely told him not to do anything until the situation with bigger clubs becomes clear, which in my opinion is what any good agent would do.

Although saying that, I think for him personally Saints would be a better move for his career than a big club. There are few clubs in the world better than saints at developing talent, he could improve with us for 2/3 years and then get the big move whilst we get 3 good years and a healthy profit.

 

Yeah, unless last season was a bit of a fluke (for him), or he gets a bad injury in the next 3 years, or he doesn't do aswell in a stronger league, or the bigger club that is in for him now sign someone else who turns out pretty good so they aren't interested in a few years, or he doesn't settle at Saints and underperforms.

Too many things that could go wrong for a player not to take the big move when it is on the table

 

All; the inflight entertainment system is very good also. I fly with Emirates about two to three times a month and are my favoured carrier.

 

All true, l suppose the logic goes that if its not going to work out for you wherever be; you might as well be a benchwarmer on a fatter salary somewhere else other than Southampton. If however somebody did not follow that negative vein of thought and was looking to carve themselves a name in the footballing fraternity; then playing time in a well respected club like ours has its attractions. PEH has decided that course of action and we are the beneficiaries.

 

It's not really the negative view in my mind, I see it more as:

Sign for Saints - best case scenario you have a couple of good seasons, then get move to bigger club if you choose

Worst case - proven to not be good enough for that level, leave when contract expires and probably return to a similar club to where you were before moving to Saints

Sign for big team - worst case you aren't good enough, spend a few years out on loan then move to a club of similar stature to Saints when approaching contract expiry, whilst probably earning far more money

Good move for him I think, I know some people have raved about him and they may well be right. I've only seen him a couple of times but he's seemed a bit wooden to me, this can only build him up.

 

I really agree with you....how dare anyone diss my beloved Southampton! But on the other hand, it depends how good the targeted player is and how valuable we think he might be to us. On the other hand, he doesn't want to be here as first choice...... Best leave it to Uncle Les.
