Sunderland have today allowed Emanuele Giaccherini a return to his homeland as the midfielder completed his move to Napoli, a deal expected to be confirmed by the club soon. The fee is understood to be worth up to €2-million for the Italian, who leaves Sunderland after just two seasons in red and white. Since arriving from Juventus for £6-million in 2013, Giaccherini has made 43 appearances for the Black Cats, scoring five times. He spent last season on loan at Bologna and he impressed, earning himself a call-up to the Italian national squad for Euro 2016 where he shone, scoring in the opening match. Giaccherini has signed a three-year deal in Naples, earning around £1.2-million per-year. Torino had been the favourites for the little Italians signature, but the Partenopei surged forward over the last 48 hours to secure the deal. The news is likely to be disappointing for Sunderland fans, who never really saw the best from Giaccherini during an underwhelming spell on Wearside.
We are a joke of a club (backroom wise) this sort of stuff has gone on for years. Jacko had a year left on his contract so we sell him on the cheap. Mvilla has six months on his and they still want good money for him (i know he is younger) need to get someone like Levy in as chairman I think
And we wonder why Sam may be getting frustrated? I don't know the ins and outs of our transfer dealings but they drag on longer than an Eastenders story line.
On a happier note, Celtic have just been twatted off some part-timers from Gibraltar: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36761213
Bosman - keep him here when he is unhappy, pay his wages for another year, then he walks. Just another case of player and agent holding all the cards.
The manager(or ex manager) has just stated that a 10mill player now costs 20mill so is Jacko worth less than 1mill? "walks for nowt" whats the odds on not to us
Huge TV money will certainly lead to inflated demands by selling clubs or agents outside UK. Hopefully M"Villa's time here will sway his thinking but as a free agent in December he is up for grabs and him and his agent will get a signing on fee in place of a transfer fee. Players just cannot lose nowadays.
Good luck Giack. Good player, unlucky and mismanaged. Full of effort and ability. Just didn't work out.
So true this and has happened since I followed Sunderland in the early 60's & now we have a big time manager we still do it - . I wish Giaccerini all the best he deserves it after his lean time here - not all down to injuries in my opinion. Now we need BSA to guide us and those around him in my opinion Consecratio Excellentiae.
Whether the club has buggered up yet another transfer or not (and I think most of us have the same sad view on that), I'm glad the lad has got the move he wants. He showed what he can do at the Euro's and hopefully he can now go on to enjoy the rest of his career. For us its just yet another what might have been!
Would anyone want Sissoko from the mags for £10m? He's just had a decent Euros after being utter dog **** for them most of the season. €2m for a 31 year old who wants away, is in the last year of his contract and has hardly kicked a ball for SAFC isn't exactly bad money. Do we think, because he had a few good games in the Euros he should go for more? I personally would rather keep him. But there have been probably 15-20 players who have had good Championships who I wouldn't want us to sign because I've seen them play. His agent wants him out of the club and he's also on around £35k a week I believe so his wage gone and a little bit recouped for a player who's hardly played for us isn;t exactly bad business IMO
I'm glad you are not running my business. An extract from the Chronicle "The Black Cats have confirmed that Emanuele Giaccherini has signed for the club for a fee of £6.5m from Juventus" So not even taking his wages into account that's a loss of £4.9M
Footballers depreciate with age though don't they once they hit the 30's - and particularly when entering their final contractual year? He joined in his prime and is leaving towards the end of his career - why would we recoup our original outlay on a player that wants to leave? He certainly hasn;t gained value on what we paid off the back of 4 good games for his national side.
