Mentioned this senario weeks ago, well before Woy was sacked, its a nightmare for us tbh, For all the good work that has gone in since Xmas, the squad is just no where near ready to move forward, we need the manager to stay and see the job through no two ways about it.

New manager means undoing what Sam has done. Different vision, different plans, different views. Means forming a new base plan just as this one has started so well. Dreading what's ahead if we lose him.

Look North just reported BSA flying back from Austria but say club reported that it is for player discussions. Could that be a smoke screen or is there a big signing in the offing

I get that. For me, losing Sam now wouldn't be a huge problem - not ideal, but manageable. There are a few decent options out of a job currently, we could get a new man in and he would have at least a little time to get settled and bring a few players in.

Losing Sam at the back end of August, however, would be catastrophic.

The FA are in no rush, the next England game is 4th September, so they've no need to appoint anyone until just before then. Problem is, it has the potential to destroy our club.

And I think personally you're in dreamland if you think the FA will give a single second's thought to the effect this will have on Sunderland AFC - they don't give a ****. Their priority is England and England only. If we get relegated, another club replaces us, no skin off their nose.

Jesus this just makes me hate Roy ****stick Hodgson more than I thought possible. If he hadn't made such a cockswalling mess there would be no chance Sam would get the job.

But as a governing body don't they serve the domestic club too? They should care about it's effect on Sunderland, and Bournmouth for that matter and Even Hull if Bruce's chances increase. All teams deserve the basic respect from their governing body not to let this drag on. It shouldn't be dreamland. It should be normal to consider the clubs. That's just plain decent.

Anyone suggesting the national team is more important to the FA than the Premier League is sorely mistaken, by the way.

    Agreed.

To me it's like it's dragging on because they weren't prepared for the position to become vacant. They're not toying with us or anything, just massively off the pace. Shambles.

If he goes he goes mate but it does leave us in an incredibly vulnerable situation.

I personally don't think he's remotely suited to the job, but if they wanna go English there is no possible other option.

We just need whatever's gonna happen done as its hampering us, it has to be.

Even if he has left to 'try sign a player', well that's bullshit as well, a manager should not be leaving the first 2 weeks of pre-season for anything.

I've said and I maintain I will have no anger towards Sam if he takes it but my concern is as always Safc. We need players in and we aren't getting them with uncertainty hanging.

Santon is going to Palace. For £3million. If we blew that deal for £3million I'll be close to my limit with the board.

I am getting the feeling that Sam is getting a little more than pissed off with the way we are handling our transfer business. Even if he is not offered the England managers job, I get the impression he could walk over our transfer policy. This club shoots itself in the foot so many times....for once we have a manager who can bring some genuine stability to our club....lets hope they don't **** it up

This whole business is beginning to annoy me.
I can appreciate why Sam hasn't said anything because he is still working for SAFC, ultimately he is being very professional in his job.
Sunderland must know more than they are letting on. If the FA want to interview Sam they will have to ask permission from the club? and if so why don't Sunderland come out and say the FA have asked permission to talk to SA.
The FA are as usual a bunch of dithering idiots with absolutely no care to the damage it will and is causing to the clubs affected by these rumours.
How can we sign players with Sam in charge when he could potentially leave the club in the very near future?
FA is not for football association its for fukcing arseholes!

If Sam takes the big one which in my opinion i think he will , it could well be like many players who still have the ambition and pride wanting to represent their country Sam i am sure is no different with his quest to reach the top ,he might feel hes the man to actually turn England into a strong unit capable of winning something with his name in the history books. (3 million quid a year to boot)
As a scotland supporter i pray he stays with us (SAFC )and enters our history books instead ,England fans are bad enough now without winning it would be worse if that alters. th (3).jpg th (3).jpg

No one has an idea why the Santon deal broke down, unless they were either in the negotiations meetings or spoke to someone who was.

Maybe Sam coming back from Austria to get more involved with player transfers has something to do with the Santon deal breaking down. Perhaps it's got nothing to do with that at all.

We've got a new CEO in so the board's ditection of travel will have changed, including the approach to transfers.

Let's all just wait to hear from the horses mouth itself and learn what Sam has to say in his next press appearance.

Roy only resigned a couple of weeks ago and many on here seem to think they should already have made their minds up.

The timing is bad for us, yes, but its daft to think that the FA should be already ahead of the game.

If they'd made an offer already they'd be accused of rushing the recruitment process first game they lose.

They're going about quietly taking advice from senior figures in the game, testing the waters on potential names, watching the reactions in the press, etc, and I would expect them to get the ball rolling formally in the next week or so.

They don't have until the end of August to get the new guy in. England's first qualifier is in early September and they'll want him and his new backroom team in place well before then.

We haven't even played our first friendly yet and people are panicking about 'what if?'

Sunderland doesn't usually replace the manager until at least the 8th or 9th game of the season <whistle>

Without having read the above posts yet, am I missing something ?

Someone on here last week or so, I think, said that Sam ain't going anywhere as he's still under contract and Short won't want to part with his manager at this pivotal point of a close season....and he doe's not have a clause in his contract for him to leave.

We don't have to let him go YET !

Let's just hope he's flown back not to speak to the FA, but instead to clear the air with Short, or to make a Club Statement for the fans etc.
