Article: Why I think Joey Barton will stay | Football, Newcastle

  1. Yes but i think Barton prefers being constant starter. He wants to be involved, and make up for the years in which he was a **** by fight and battling on the pitch every game. He wants to be remembered as a proper footballer, not for the years he spent kicking the **** out of people when he was younger.

I personally think the way he'll do that is by getting on the England team and playing well. I think what he wants most is to be remembered by his country as a footballer, not a thug. The best way for him to wipe out his past is delivering for his club side and his national side.

Parker got the chance to play for England because he carried West Ham, and was their star. I think he'd prefer to be the star midfielder at his next club. I don't think Everton would be his ideal move.

Every set of fans in the country will have booed him, probably including us at one time or another. But I'd say outside the top 5 or 6, any club and its fans would be happy to have him.

Aston villa would pay him those wages.
spurs would pay him those wages.
    Fulham
    Everton

alot of clubs would be willing to pay those wages not just top 4, especially with no fee.

but he should do himself a favour and stay at newcastle

    One large hole in your argument;

What Mike Ashley says goes. If Ashley really doesn't want him at the club then he won't be given the chance to "piss him off". He'll either fester in the reserves or be taken by another club

Tash do you really think he has more chance to get in the England side by staying here than bench-warming at a top six club? I don't think Capello's ever been north of Manchester.

He's available on a free though, money that would of went towards a fee will go to his wages instead.

    3 years at 65k is 9 million-ish

    EDIT: Maths fail :(

He could well stay and collect his £65k per week but how committed would he be to Pardew and what sort of influence would he be in your dressing room if he's as disillusioned as it appears?

I'd be careful what you wish for if you're hoping he'll stay... a narked and unsettled Joey Barton could do a lot more harm than good for you lot next year.

And he would get a signing on fee probably in the region of £1,000,000. Thus he could take a cut of around £25k a week and still have the same wages after the first year. What he will also do is have performance related bonuses based on assists and goals. So even at a lower level prem club he would still make the same I would imagine.

I also dont think that Pardew would play him if he stays. The board want him out and they will have said that if he does not move on he will not play surely unless there would be no point in selling him on a free!

He has been released so why would he stay when he could join a better club. Let's not forget he hasn't fully commited himself to NUFC that much. I remember him saying he would leave if a top 4 club came in for him. Not exactly commitment.

Has he had a fall-out with the manager or is he just wrangling for a bigger salary?

    I disagree, I can't fault Barton's commitment whatsoever.

When Man Utd were linked a month back he tweeted something like, "thanks but no thanks".
