Let's not ignore the fact the guy has donated millions to various charitable courses around the globe as well. What a bastard.
I like both teams and have enjoyed their performances for different reasons, the French for the entertaining way they have played in their interplay, the level of performance from Pogba, Griezemann, Payet and Lloris. In contrast the Portuguese have been obdurate and rather conservative which in its own way indicates good intelligence in getting to a final (Germany, Italy and Argentina have often followed this route in the past), so well done to them.
Hmn. A quick google reveals it's not gold either . Shame. Still think he's possibly the vainest man alive though.
If you read Greg, this has been mentioned in the same sentence as calling him a cock! It is possible to be both. I know, some People think I'm alright
Anyway. Struggling with this. On the one hand, my French grandma, long deceased but fondly remembered. On the other, Saints' captain and club legend Jose Fonte, the last direct link with that JPT final. My nan didn't like football much. I'm still 1/4 French though. Jose might see out his career with us. But I'm sure he'd be off the right offer came in. Still conflicted. The Ronaldo hate might swing it an facour of les bleus. But I hate teams that play in blue. France won't play in white will they?
I don't like Ronaldo because yes, he's the star of the team, but I think he pushes the other players down through belittling them rather than raising his teammates (as opposed to Messi/Bale who do the opposite). There's a sense of "you're not as good as me" (which is true) and his constant complaints and sulks when there's a misplaced pass (or, God forbid a pass to someone that isn't him) that bugs me. I also wish he'd just come out. It would do the world of football and the wider sporting world so much good if a player of his standing took that first step.
Totally agree Tom. I have no idea what he's really like as a person off the field. I don't *hate* him - that's far too strong. I just don't like his on-field attitude.
Yeah I don't particularly like his on field manner. But he does seem to come across as decent person off it from articles I read.
I want Portgual to win tonight (never thought I'd say that!) despite having France in our sweepstake. Firstly, obviously, for Jose. Also would like to see Ronaldo win a major tournament as he's one of the best to play in modern era and most certainly deserves it. Also Portugal are probably the biggest/best nation to never win anything so won't begrudge them it for that reason. Still fancy France to win though, should be a good game.
How about this. 1. Jose Fonte scores the winner if it's a Portugal winner, from a Cedric cross. He completely overshadows Ronaldo and the worlds media focus on him and his Sainst career, with several top quality players realising that Saints is the place to play and they form a queue outside Les' office to sign. 2. France win. Payet is unstoppable, scores three great goals (none down to Fonte - in fact he blocks three on the line each time) and Real Madrid/Barcelona contact his agent and force him out of West Ham for £30m, at 11:55pm on deadline day. The porn brothers then sit in their under crackers wallowing in a pile of cash, forgetting to re-invest it in the team.
I'll go for scenario 1. But I reckon Ronaldo will grab the trophy and flatly refuse to allow it to be photographed without him.
