Mags close to Gamez swoop, and Bristol City defender may be next in line. please log in to view this image Newcastle target Aden Flint rues a missed chance for Bristol City Newcastle United are close to signing Atletico Madrid right-back Jesus Gamez – and a centre-half is next on the Magpies’ hitlist. Gamez is due on Tyneside to complete a move to the Championship club after two years at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. The 31-year-old’s imminent arrival puts a question mark above the future of Dutch international Daryl Janmaat. Gamez can also play at left-back and would offer Benitez cover in central defence. Newcastle – who have already signed Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie and Matz Sels – hope to follow Gamez’s signing with that of a central defender following the departures of captain Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor. Bristol City’s Aden Flint is on their transfer radar. Flint – who has also been watched by Sunderland – is interesting a number of clubs. But the Robins, backed by billionaire Steve Lansdown, do not have to sell their best players this summer, and the club hope to keep him at Ashton Gate. Flint, signed from Swindon in 2013, also has three years left on his contract. Newcastle have also considered moves for QPR’s Steven Caulker and Arsenal’s Jayden Isaac, who spent last season on loan at Hull. Benitez – who will take his squad to Ireland next week for a training camp ahead of the July 16 friendly at Bohemian – is hopeful of further progress in the coming days. Speaking this week, he said: “We were working to get some players ready, and then we did three in a row. We are still working. We have some players there (and) ready.” http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...l-city-defender-may-be-next-in-line-1-8001096 http://www.nufcblog.com/2016/07/07/newcastle-have-a-new-center-back-target/ http://www.themag.co.uk/2016/07/new...on-league-background-aden-flint-bristol-city/ http://www.footballinsider247.com/g...newcastle-to-replace-outgoing-captain-report/
There are some fairly serious signings being made by our competitors too Stephen Fletcher to Sheff Wed Glen Murray to Brighton Rob Green to Leeds
Nufc fan here in peace. Firstly I wish you all the best for next season but obviously I have my owns teams intentions to serve first which brings me on to this..... There are strong rumours we are going to try and sign flint and talk up here is that it's a fee of around 8 million. Is he a player you will be sad to see go. I understand he is highly rated.
Yes he does seem to be highly rated. Yes I would be very sad to see him go. There are very few decent centre backs in the English game at the moment, if we have any semblance of ambition to do well in this division it would be foolish to sell him, although £8m is a great deal of money. He appears to be settled here and his mate (Lee Tomlin) has returned to us on a permanent deal. He score a lot of goals and is a big threat at set pieces, something we have badly missed till he arrived. I hope he stays for now.
The thing is the prices of the players are in silly land now because of the premiership tv deal and we are desperate for defenders (As everyone knows) so to me £8m for a proven GOOD player at this level is probably about right and maybe enough for you to accept.
For eight million pounds you would get Flint and three/four of Bristol City's starting XI. Aden Flint scores lots of goals for a defender. Lots. Despite being 6.5 he has a rare abilty to peel off to the far post and suddenly become invisible. For two seasons this has been going on. Invisibilty to those outside of Bristol can be the only explanation as to how team after team fail to combat this.
Are you saying he could be similar to our old Mike Williamson. The difference being is he peeled off to the far post and then was sighted and scored about erm zero goals.
Eight million, personally think Baker will be signing and they will carry on together at the heart of our defence.
Flint is as big an asset as a striker, such as Burnley's Gray who they signed for 8M, and unless we have a real gem in our sights I can't see us moving him on, even for that money and certainly not for less (unless of course he wants to leave).
He is very popular not sure that is the same as highly rated, Ball winning centre half bit like Robert Huth. 8 million for a championship player who isn't comfortable with the ball at his feet!!!!
