Is it?! I usually quite like him. No way was he getting a serious answer to the rugby v football question - they're both equally important
In Wales, football is played by more people than rugby is. Rugby is the "establishment" sport. At my university college, Lampeter, football got a fraction of the funding that rugby did, despite having a larger pool of players.(Not that I was bitter, being the football captain ) All the rugby players supported football teams; most of the footballers didn't give two hoots for rugby. Look at the support for Cardiff City and Swansea and compare it to Scarlets or Ospreys. Traditionally, rugby was the sport that Wales could punch above their weight - that was why it achieved so much attention. That has now changed....about time too!
Ah well, at least I can put a Grazi photo back as my profile pic - silver linings can be found everywhere
Anyone fancy a Germany v France match thread. I'll do it. Just say the word. Can't guarantee to do the Final as I'm away all Sunday.
Wales should be hugely proud, they carried not just a nation, but a kingdom on their shoulders after a really ****ty couple of weeks. Delighted for Jose, and also Cedric, but far more delighted for our brave Welsh brethren. That's the way you play tournament football.
I'm really disappointed with ITV's coverage of the tournament. The presenter strikes me as being someone who doesn't know much about football but pretends he does to keep up with the cool kids. Jaqui Oatley is far too over enthusiastic, it's nauseating. Clive Tyldesley is past it and just uses the same clichés every match and Glenn Hoddle has the most annoying, grating voice. I don't like their stupid Eifel Tower replica table either.
A pundit on Sky just said the big change for Portugal was when they brought Fonte back into the starting line up. At last, someone has noticed.
Indeed. I think we've all noticed how comparatively solid Portugal have been since. It was therefore also obvious that Cedric should play at RB. Instantly there's an RB - CB partnership there.
The Guardian with some Jose-love too - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jul/06/portugal-wales-five-talking-points
Same old, same old. ITV just don't do sports well. Tbh, I struggle to think what they actually do do well on a consistent basis. Marc Pougach [the presenter] doesn't really front TV sports output. But he's actually pretty good on BBC radio, his main job. The best thing to happen to that table was when Slavan Bilic jumped on top of it. That was amusing.
In a recent Telegraph interview, Fonte said his career has involved a lot of hard work and some suffering, but he is proud of what he has achieved. And so he should be.
