I think you are over-interpreting that a little bit. I don't think the "Southampton Way" dictates the precise tactics as such, more the general approach that it should be attacking, passing, possession based football. MP's and RK's systems and tactics were poles apart. Besides, to repeat my point, MP never plays with wingers, has never bought one and always ships them out of his squads.

I meant to say it's not set in stone!!

There is a Les Reed interview where he said they want to play a certain way and have those formations played right through the club.

As I said though, not set in stone, but you can have a pretty good idea how we'll play.

Not looking for agreement. Just expressing an opinion with a bit of comment to back it up. I think the way we set ourselves up last season demand the full backs to get forward and that inevitably leaves a hole at the back that the centre backs (for example) are expected to cover. So is it the player or the style of play? That said, with the rumours of Sidibe coming in I wonder if Cedric is destined for bigger things - Barcelona are interested.

I do take Schad's point though about Martina. Our expectations were low.

His goal against Man U was worth two points, which was worth one position in the table, and consequently £1.25m in merit payments. Those two points also earned a pass straight to the Europa group stage, which is worth £2m at the current exchange rate. So he's almost there...

I knew what you meant ... obvious typo! I don't agree that that the Southampton Way dictates specific systems though, it's a general concept. MP and RK played very different systems. We will have to wait and see what Pule's interpretation is, but to repeat my point again ... we can't be sure about the shopping list because we don't know how Puel is going to play.

Yeah, £16 million pound fee I think. Not too sure we were that interested in him. The Nigerian article that was posted said it was us originally, then a few hours later released another one saying it was incorrect and it was in fact Leicester who had bid for him.

Not even the slightest idea where he would fit in, beyond the connection to Conte, but the more bids the merrier.

If Pelle is to go, I'm glad Chelsea are in for him; Juve's mooted offer seemed oddly low.

I wonder if many clubs are still in for big Zaza despite his penalty shocker, although that could apply to Pelle too <doh> Having watched almost every Juve game bar one or two last season, I would love to see Zaz replace Pelle but haven't heard many reports of us being linked to him.

Would rather he went back to Italy but balanced with the Chelsea Tariff, I am not that bothered if he goes as long as we bring in a replacement

Missed this before: posted by Osvaldorama on the Saints Stuff thread, but has a relevant point about all the money swirling around at the moment. Also a very good read.

It is suggested that so much money inhibits innovation and the big clubs may actually pay inflated prices for obvious players and will be less likely to do what Saints do which is look beyond the obvious and recruit to suit our system. Food for thought for those supporters who want us to splash the cash (just for the sake of it in the case of some manic fans). Prices will no doubt be higher generally, but the larger clubs cannot buy everyone and will not necessarily be looking at our targets. We should stick to our principles and not cry if a player we haven't heard much about is bought for 10 million...may be better for us than a 20 million pound player bought by Spurs or West Ham for example. All transfers carry a risk, but our system largely works for us and I can't see Les being panicked into abandoning it....thought I'm sure we will offer that bit more if we really want a player.

Everton apparently been told that Pelle's price is 20 million. Personally I'd sooner shoot him, but the board are probably less careless with money. :( Pelle is hot to trot at the moment, so we may do well out of this....but I'd still rather keep him and for a different reason to Saint Helen. Ignore age and dodgy knee...he still has some good years ahead of him...I may even suggest, the best is yet to come. Please not at Everton.:emoticon-0106-cryin

So who are we seriously linked with as it stands? Assuming the Musa link was bull**** or is now dead in the water, Amavi and Nagy?
