Oh don't worry about me moaning, but I would like to see us push the boat out a little considering what we have lost already this summer and £10m for a quality RB doesn't seem that much.

I doubt we will either, but we could without much difficulty.

If Pelle is sold, as most seem to expect, we will have taken in close to 60m, including the compensation received for Koeman. We will also have trimmed the wage bill by 250k p/w or more (Pelle, Mane, Wanyama, Juanmi's apparently substantial wages, and Stek), depending on how much of Gaston's wages we were paying a season ago. Add in a jump in revenues of 40-50m, and we could easily spend 70m+ in transfers plus wages while still making a decent chunk of money along the way.

Have we? What in one transfer window?
    I hope we do tbh.
Certainly ain't going to spend lots on the Nigerian fella as quoted.
The shame for me is Puel is going to be judged on his signings this season.

You're right to point out that the wage bill also has a big impact on our capacity for signings. Although it's also worth noting that Charlie Austin will presumably have added quite a chunk to that last season ...

Koeman bought in: Tadic, Pelle, Long, Gardos, Bertrand, Alderweireld, Mane, Forster in his first Summer with us.

And I'm sure Forster, Van Dijk, JWP, and Davis will have had a nice pay rise too.

I can see us playing 433 or 4231. We have played the same way through two managers now. Apart from the odd system change for a few games.

We signed - Rodriguez, Davis, Clyne, Boruc, Gazzaniga, Ramirez, Mayuka, Yoshida - in one window

Austin isn't on the amount that Gold and others keep spewing. I heard it was below 60k.

Probably better off getting some loan players in with a view to buying the following summer, that way I think you can judge whether that player is interested in sticking around or he sees Saints as just a stepping stone.

Absolutely. If Austin is on 75k, and Forster/VVD/JWP/Davis got an average raise of 25k p/w, that's about 9m a year in spending. But we, again, have taken in 60m, freed up 13-15m in wages, will get 40m or thereabouts in additional TV money, and a further several million for our new kit deal and shirt sponsorship.

(And before anyone mentions it: no, FFP will not come in to play).

Edit: Beefy'd on Austin. Aimed on the high side so that it wouldn't look like I was minimizing the costs, likely I was waaaay too high on those wages.

It doesn't seem that much and it isn't. My pint is though, don't judge the player by his price, judge by what he does.

Steven Davis has looked just a little better than a 750k player :)

We've done it a couple of times. Once after the exodus and I think our first season up.

Yes but Poch never played with wingers, for example, and I have ready that Puel doesn't either. It may be that he take a different approach at Saints, but my point is we can't say what we need without knowing what our style of play is going to be.

I'm not saying it's set in stone, but if you go back to Les' presentations and speeches a couple of years back, it was all about 'playing' the Southampton way on the pitch as well as off. Poch played with Jayrod and Lallana starting wide in a three. Ok, there was a lot of movement and flexibility, but essentially it was one wide either side.

I'd be surprised if our style of play changes too much.

Yes, there were special cicumstances for the Steven Davis and Charlie Austin deals and they were superb bits of business, but we need an upgrade for the Right Back position IMO and we will be lucky to get a quality one on the cheap this Summer in particular.
