I think Martina is pretty good actually. Cedric will get better. He's better going forward at present so there's a little imbalance there.

 

We need to buy a RB that is valued at at least £10m and NOT sell Bertrand at LB under any circumstances for the natural balance of the team.

 

I don't mind if it's half that. I just want a player that can defend.

 

The trouble is that for £5m you get Cedric...

 

We need to buy players for at least 3 times what they're worth that are way past their sell buy date so that no-one will steal them from us next season. (worked for Newcastle)

 

Martina did a solid enough job, but he's so limited as a player we absolutely cannot let him go into the season as our RB. We're better than that.

 

Oh, I agree, which is why that LB position won't be referred to again, as well.

 

Same. I don't think we should continue with "more or less adequate" if we don't have to, and Sidibe is reputed to be a better-rounded player.

 

Seems to be a very versatile player too. Can play both fullback positions, able to play further forward too if needed.

You're kidding right. Cedric has been one of the highlights for Portugal in Euro 16 and Martina has been brilliant for Saints. Admittedly their strength is going forward but both still very good defenders. Probably one of our strongest positions IMO. Can't help feeling we are setting our standards a tad high sometimes.

That said, I guess if you keep on improving the side people will eventually highlight VVD and Forster as our weak links though.

 

I agree with a lot of this, but we can't really determine what we need until we know how Puel wants to play. If he plays two up top without wingers then the shopping list is very different. Regardless, we look well short of attacking options at the moment and that's before Pelle goes.

 

I agree with Beefy. As much as I love Cuco, he is an accident waiting to happen. I sit in the RB slot in the Kingsland and watch clearly how many times he gets caught, but we got away with most. He's a great character, but we need to improve that position.

Cedric has played well, but each game there have been several occasions when he is on the right wing and the ball is in the RB spot where he should be.

 

A £10m valued player is more likely to be better than a £5m valued player, Ryan Bertrand cost us £10m and we need somebody of his quality at RB IMO....Cedric cost £5m and we got exactly what we paid for him.

The Right Back position cost was our achilles heel last season and I really don't think that we have to scrimp on it this season

 

Martina was brilliant relative to our extremely low expectations, but he wasn't particularly good. His positioning, both defensively and in attack, is really very bad...he often leaves the impression that he has just been converted to right back.

 

I can't see Saints buying that amount of players or even spending what's needed for that.

Often that's the case, often it's not. I worry that you'll moan if we don't spend enough on a player, rather than assess the player.

I was actually asking what you mean by value though and if by value you mean price? We signed Charlie Austen for £4m, which is way short of his value.

 

We've signed 7/8 players before.

 

Koeman spent £70 million odd in replacing and strengthening squad in the first Summer he was here. Would imagine similar again this Summer for Puel.
