10 years old today (officially). Blimey, where did 10 years go?! Here's a pic I took at the Espanyol game... please log in to view this image and first pic I took of the stadium construction... please log in to view this image
That went quick...I remember my girlfriend mock me for visting the website which had the big countdown and 24hr construction webcam set-up, but the stadium had been a serious consideration since the late 70s and ever since the disappointment of Stoneham there was a relief that we could finally compete. Must be inconceivable for the younger fans to think we could only house 15k for a premier league game after our attendances last season in the 3rd tier. Still as fondly as the Dell is remembered St Marys is slowly getting its own folklore. I'm sure this has been asked previously but what is everyones favourite at St Marys? Match: - Beating Tottenham 4-0 in the FA Cup 3rd round in 2003 Atmosphere: - Versus Portsmouth in the Carling cup in 2003. 1st meeting in 7 years and evening games are always that more special Goal: - Plenty of great strikes, so it comes down to importance and I pick Stern Johns second against Sheffield United in 2008
God I feel old. I remember my first sight of the Dell, in 1971. I was confidently told we wouldn't be there long because plans were afoot to move to a new stadium suitable to our status as a 1st Division club. A mere 30 years later it all came to pass.
