I know it was because it was England and they're ****ing ****, but I'll rule myself out of creating Match Threads for Saints this coming season. Jaidi's match thread record: Played 4 - Won 1, Drawn 2, Lost 1. Should have let FLT make them
Absolutely NO. Don't steal a successful manager from a middle sized club. Steal one from a glamour club, if you must. Mourinho for England. There you go. That'll piss the Stretford End off.
Forget the manager for a few months. Some sensible people need to be appointed in the FA. It might as well be Southgate after that, Roy was only part of the problem.
I think the England team need psychologists to help because there is definitely a deep rooted problem in my opinion.
Personally I think the whole expectation thing is wrong. Going back to my Germany & Italy example - how come they always come good despite being perceived as poor almost every time they come around to a tournament.? They appear to scrape through their qualification groups to tournaments, and when they finally start playing in their tournament groups they are still not really firing. But they invariably make it through them. Then comes the knock-out stage and they rise to the challenge. Now I have absolutely no doubt that if Italy had got a team like Iceland they would have made heavy weather of it, but almost certainly won. The impression being that they keep their best under wraps until required, so that everyone can be fooled into saying, I don't rate this Italian team. Against Spain they had to reveal how good they were because Spain demanded a super performance to be beaten. And Germany are exactly the same as Italy. The very best teams actually talk down their chances. England always talk theirs up. So much so that the expectations take off and the pressure begins. Germany & Italy play with the pressure only they apply to themselves to get a great performance. They manage the expectation pressure perfectly, whilst England are totally undone by it.
There is absolutely a psychological problem, and its possibly/probably got worse. Can we always blame the coach? Saying that, I don't think Roy inspired confidence, but we have tried the detached Italian tactician, and that was **** too! Somebody mentioned that other teams pick players that fit the system, not necessarily the obsessive trait that we have to pick players from the top 4 teams (or teams that the British media feel should be in the top 4). Pelle is a good example. I think this person made a good point. But hey, lets put them all in therapy!
Who? Never heard of him. No I am sure he would definitely not bring any leadership, strategy and planning experience to the FA. Whoever he is. (phew, I think we got away with it)
Remember we lost the first two group games so were out straight away. I think last nights performance was worse than those though.
Sorry! I was actually searching for my own negative posts on the topic of England, and came across your positive ones instead! Don't worry - apart from forgetting Iceland on your list of the tiny club of nations who are better than England, it's not too bad...
Alan Pardew would brilliantly suit the England managers job. You have only got to look at his record. Pardew will start off unbeaten during friendlies and qualification and the bubble will burst when we get to the world cup finals and lose game after game after game. A perfect fit.
