Agree that 3 up front doesn't work, shouldn't have accommodated sterling by playing 4-3-3. Play 2 out and out strikers. Need another holding/central midfielder alongside dier. Alli and Rooney + 3 up top equals imbalance and nothing to start from getting forward. We just lurked about just inside their half and outside the box all game. At least rashford helped to get it in there.
He wasn't any better at previous tournaments. Time for all the older ones to go but for heaven's sake don't replace them with self idolising players like Alli and Sterling who are more concerned about their next selfie to bother about the national shirt.

I can actually believe this. IMO you took the game thinking it was in the bag and didn't know what to do when they came at you straight from going one behind. The players conveniently forgot that Iceland came through their group as winners and most importantly they already knocked out one of the big boy teams in qualifying.
We've been at our best, attacking, when Rose and Walker have raided their wings continuously. Last night Sterling 'took' Rose's space and Sturridge 'took' Walker's space and consequently you hardly saw them doing what they do best. We basically set up all wrong and no game plan whatsoever. I lost count of the times we passed across the back allowing Iceland to bank up. And how many times did we see our midfielders centrally hold their hands up with no options. The longer the game went on their confidence drained, they couldn't pass 10 yards and if hey did the ball went under their feet. I blame Hodgson and his coaching staff although, to be fair, you can't legislate for Walker and Hart with such schoolboy errors. What a difference the game plan Conte had for the Italians, no real stars but f8ck me weren't they organised.
