Daniel Sturridge is likely to fill the other wide role, with Harry Kane leading the line. Hodgson will also revert to the central midfield trio of Rooney, Dele Alli and Eric Dier. Full backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker, rested for the game against Slovakia, will also be recalled. Ron Greenwood's side fell behind at Laugardalsvollur in Reykjavik after 23 minutes to a goal from Arnor Gudjohnsen, father of former Chelsea striker Eidur. England avoided defeat thanks to a 69th-minute leveller by debutant Paul Goddard - his first international goal on his only international appearance. Steve Perryman also made his sole international appearance that day. England 6 Iceland 1, friendly, June 5, 2004 England gave their supporters a send-off to remember at the City of Manchester Stadium before they headed for Euro 2004. Sven-Goran Eriksson's first-choice side went in at half-time with a three-goal lead thanks to a Wayne Rooney brace and a Frank Lampard effort, with Heidar Helguson pulling a goal back just before the interval. Darius Vassell netted twice once play resumed and Wayne Bridge completed the rout with his only international goal. We need to keep their midfield of, Onemehedsson, Gowonmysson, Avashotsson and Passthefuckingballsson quiet.
W Whilst I was never a strong supporter of the appointment Roy, he has done better than I expected. Although recently, he has lost the plot!
I think Lallana injured himself in training a couple of days ago, was pictured with ankle wrapped in ice bags.
Nice to be discussing footie again. Anyone see a banana skin tonight? I have to say, I do not. Comfortable 2 or 3 nil win to England. The alternative means goodbyye Roy.
I DO see a banana skin. We haven't looked particularly good since we arrived in France. Iceland, on the other hand have.
Walker is the key for us tonight. if he can get around them then 2/3 nil win. if not i fear 1 nil at best. We have struggled to breakdown teams who come to defend and without Lallana's high energy Walker may not get the space.
Surely England can't lose this! That'd be like QPR losing to Vauxhall Mot......Hang on, that's already happened.
lol. Naughty. I'm sticking to my 2 /3 nil but you may say 'I told you so' if the banana skin materialises.
England should be all over Iceland box to box if they play as they have so far. It's not going to help much if the finishing isn't a lot lot better. A screw up at the back is due too. We need to get lucky for once.
Sigurdsson is the dangerman, if we concede free kicks within 30 yards of goal he's good enough to punish us. We just need a good start to force them out of their defensive shell...
