When Pelle goes .....surly we will get in another striker? Wonder who we have got our eye on?
Kostic rumour is popping up again even though he is a winger, and the Thomas Partey link is that he is/was one of Rons targets not one of ours.

Pelle may seek a move, but I would have no problem with keeping him if it doesn't happen for whatever reason. I still see him as a real asset and it would cost quite a bit to replace him with a younger version.

Yeah agree, though I would still expect a replacement of sort, whether that's academy or signing, to keep squad numbers up.

By no more first teamers I was meaning more VVD, Bertrand & Long... and I'm fairly confident that will be the case too.

Absolutely Fran. To me he would be very useful next season. I was just mentioning him however, to warn those who seem to have let panic set in, that there may still be another one to go yet. Ideally I would like Pelle to stay and be that player who is a very good squad player. There are a lot of games to come this season and he'd get plenty of time.

I would very much understand if he felt he needed to go somewhere else and possibly pick up a last big contract. I wouldn't have any reason to moan if he decided that and even though I was one of his biggest critics, I also realise that he had an important contribution for us and played his part in our success of the last two seasons.

FFS I have said many times that no one is irreplaceable not even that Queenie woman or the President of the USA. We have been very good at recruitment and player development and as a club we are building something special and sustainable. We will become a top side playing CL football but long term sustainability is built on a solid foundation so it is softly, softly catchee monkey for now.

At least with Ireland coming home Long can sign that new deal he was rumoured to.

Every time we get close to doing something great like winning a trophy the carpet gets swept away from under our feet and it's growing tiring. I'm getting really annoyed watching teams like Palace, Hull and Villa getting to the FA Cup Final. It's all well and good finishing 8th, 7th, 6th but we get no reward for it and we lose our best player every season. OK, we've got EL proper this season but it's time to compete for a trophy.

Milik would be a top signing. Probably a bit beyond us though

Thanks. Still none the wiser in terms of making a comment on him. Sounds like something you'd clean your toilet with though :(

What's that got to do with which players we let go.... if anything, selling our better players will have us in theory a worse team (like Palace, Hull and Villa) and therefor e maybe more likely to get to a cup final.

There is no logic in what you have said Tom, apart from you being a frustrated fan that wants to win something or get to a cup final. Nothing wrong with that second part, I want to win something or get to a final, but moaning at the board when players or managers go, isn't going to change the chances of us winning a cup. I don't want to be Palace, Hull or Villa thanks.

I bet Villa fans are getting really annoyed that little old Southampton are challenging for Europe rather than preparing for a trip to Burton Albion.

The more we sell our best players, the less likely we get to a cup final.

What? But...but... surely finishing 6th is better than winning a cup? Right? <whistle>

There's no reason why we can't do both. We just need to keep a squad together for more than a season.

Fats, it's all very admirable to defend the club like you are doing, and believe me, I'm usually on the same page. Yes, it's great that we improve year-on-year etc. But, doesn't a little part of you just wonder whether we could have achieved more had we been less willing to sell?

Clyne for example. I know he's just a full-back. But I'm sure over the whole of last season, having a much better quality right-back than Cuco/Cedric, would have earned us the extra 3 points to have put us in the Champs League. Then there's the Alderweireld situation. We ****ed up there for sure. Also, the season before, when we were top 4 in January, but we were too tight to buy another striker, and that cost us again IMO.

Yes, the board are top-notch, and I appreciate just as much as anyone what they've done. But their A* rating for me is fast becoming just an A. Still awesome, but there is the odd cock-up once in a while. The reason most of us are frustrated, is because we are so close to going from being another 'nearly' club, to a very successful club. So close. 3 or 4 more points close. But this opportunity won't last forever, and the risks that the board take year after year, are some day gonna come back to haunt them. Personally, if we don't spend close to 100 million this summer, I will see this as a lack of ambition.

That was tongue in cheek really as I've been having the argument for years on here and have noticed that more people have mentioned it recently :) <laugh>
