dear me got up this morning and saw nothing but gallows and rain clouds everywhere.
it was a friendly and i doubt the team that started will be the one that takes the field against arsenal
another thing people keep going on about a threadbare squad and the like?
We have a big squad granted not full of the quality say like man utds or man citys but we aren't competing with them and won't be for a fair few years yet.
outside of the top six who does have the quality in depth compare our squad to the likes of villa/Everton/QPR/Swansea/Wigan/Blackburn/Mackems/Fulham/Norwich/Stoke/West Brom/Wolves/Bolton then come out with the doom and gloom if our squad is lacking compared to those.i think if you look you'll find our squad holds up well/better than the majority i have mentioned.....stop the doom and gloom **** we had a good season and have added quality to the squad.
yes we need a striker but the time to panic is on the last day of the window and we still don't have one not now.
as for relegation i fancy a few of those teams I've mentioned way ahead of us.

    onwards and upwards HTL

    This ^^^

By far not the worst squad in the league and we haven't really gelled yet with 2 seperate squads going on 2 seperate tours, it'll come just need a bit of time training and playing together.

I'd be more worried if i was a Wigan fan they lost the player that almost single handedly kept them up

I don't see what's changed because of one friendly. I expect us to be in the same mix we were last year. We're not going to seriously threaten the top 8, but shouldn't be relegated. If the league is really tight again we may have hope of a top ten finish. We may flirt with the R word a little due to our lack of quality forward options, but we're in the same boat as a few other teams. Obviously our big concern is the volume of injury prone players in the squad, I count 8 or 9 as very injury prone. If we got really unlucky and those guys spent significant time out then we would have serious problems. I know people will say "well we shouldn't be taking that risk". Quite simply we have and we are so lets get on with it.

I don't buy into the theory that we're defo not gonna get relegated, that's just foolish given past experiences and the fact we're no great shakes when you look at our depth of quality. But equally I by no means think we're certain to go down! Its somewhere in the middle like last year. We've pretty much stagnated this summer for me. I don't think we're any better than the team that started last year, but I don't think we're any worse. I think the quality added in midfield, probably balances out the two we've lost up top. I expected us to stagnate, thats what happens when you can't afford to invest in the team (yes I know fat Mike can but won't before anyone starts) Newcastle UNited as a business can't not afford to invest and need to keep making profits every transfer window to reduce the crippling debt.
