Jordan Henderson is likely to be handed his first start of the tournament with Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge also coming in after their goalscoring substitute appearances in the victory over Wales. It’s a huge risk from Hodgson with qualification still hanging in the balance and the proposition of a tricky last-16 draw if they fail to beat Slovakia in St. Etienne. Slovakia, on the other hand, could be unchanged following their impressive win over Russia and that result has given them belief they could yet reach the knock-outs themselves. Marek Hamsik has been directly involved in four goals in his last three competitive games for his country (three goals and one assist) and his stunning goal proved to be the difference against the Russians last time out. please log in to view this image Saint Etienne’s Stade Geoffroy-Guichard The last time England played here was against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup. Michael Owen scored a wonder goal and David Beckham was sent off. Don't make too many changes, they are no pushovers and a defeat could result in England being 3rd in group and having to play one of the big sides in the last 16......
I don't think that Kane should start, and probably not Sterling either. I'd keep the same back four, but start a different striker (or strikers). Vardy and Sturridge for Kane and Sterling has to be sensible. Whether there's any other changes in midfield that might help the forward changes work better, I'm not sure. With Sterling off, there's a little drop in pace, but we may not need that against the Slovakian defence.
Start with Vardy and Sturridge for the players they replaced on thursday. Keep the rest the same. Don't agree with wholesale changes if that's what he does......could blow up spectacularly on him
Thought Solvakia looked very strong against Russia. Joe Hart will need to wake up for starters - this game is definitely not a given.
Games to big to start chopping & changing, Vardy & Sturridge for Kane & Sterling, win this and they don't play again until Saturday, plenty of time to rest
If he makes more than the obvious changes re Vardy and Sturridge, I worry Woy's been listening to too many people calling him conservative, and is determined to prove them wrong. Keep the 9, add the 2.
He's already confirmed six changes, I hope he plays Vardy in the No.9 role rather than Sturridge, that would be better balanced. A big gamble, as a defeat would mean tougher opposition and route towards final as well as probably the sack...
My thoughts exactly...Hart is the only other change I would make.... but you know what goalies are...easily upset, so maybe not
I just can't believe he's going to make 6 changes. I heard that Rooney has a slight knock, so Vardy for kane, Sturridge for Sterling and Wilshire for Rooney should be the only changes imo. The back four should be kept the same as the more games they play as a unit the better.
I get the feeling the only reason he's not resting Cahill or Smalling as well is that he doesn't have any alternatives.
I'm not that bothered about the changes. Let's have a go and see what the starting 11 can do. We have plenty of back up on the bench if necessary- as long as Roy uses them wisely AND gets the timing right.
