I always thought if he wasn't almost bald he'd be an England regular, just made him look so old well before he hit his prime. Blooming good player.

I like Davis, but it doesn't matter how good he is. He's under contract and I doubt anyone would pay him much more than we are.

I don't think you do this personally ISIRTP, but as a club(and fans) we can't complain when players/managers don't show loyalty to the club, if we're not an employer which rewards loyalty. Davis has been a great professional and consistent performer. Perhaps this contract will put him beyond his peak as a footballer, but as a club it's important that we treat our senior players the best way we can and he deserves to be one of our highest earners

The Everton fans seem to be convinced we're "bitter". Not that I've seen.

I don't disagree. Personally, I don't know whether Davis has three more years of being a substantial player and wouldn't have been upset if he had departed this summer, but stability begets stability. Having a core group that remains in place for several seasons gives us a base to work from, and even his improved contract is doubtful to feature backbreaking wages.

Yes, that is true. One should be consistent.

I don't get outraged when players leave to the extent most others do, either. I feel like it is mostly a business.

Having said that, the amount we are probably spending on Davis is relatively minor. And I do believe that there is a tangible value to team leadership, and retaining players to become future coaches or ambassadors. If nothing else, fan favorites like Davis help put a few more asses in the seats.

So it's not a big deal. I just lack the emotional hero/loyalty component that you guys feel.

As delighted as I am about this, being a Northern Irishman myself, it's much like when JWP signed a new deal in that it isn't a player I was necessarily worried we would lose. Still, great player and a good guy to have around. I think he will be a good asset for our European invasion.

You also have never really rated Davis that highly (going on previous posts) which also explains your comments.

    Great news!!!

He lives next door to my old house and my old neighbours tell me that he is indeed a lovely bloke. Hosts dinner parties for the lane and is a genuine family man. Seems very happy here which is great.

There's hardly room in the seating at St Mary's to fit my arse, let alone a donkey. Sorry, but the ever increasing use of Americanisms is a favourite gripe of mine.<whistle>

Nah! The old "old house next door neighbour's cat" rumour. We don't believe them around here.

He doesn't host dinner parties; he's a robot anyway, so how can he cook?

    :)

I like Davis, maybe not as much as some but I like him. My feeling has generally been that he deserves his place in the squad and does an alright job.

Solid midfielder for a lower top half side is about his level, and ours right now. So, no hurry to get rid, would like to strengthen, but also not our first priority.

Every season since he signed we get posts saying Davis is ok, but not at our level. Every season he plays most games (under three different managers). Every season he's integral to the team.

Yeah, he must just be ok.

Saints are a very good side with money to spend (within reason), yet the club mysteriously rate Davis and managers keep playing him. Could it be that he is a good whole hearted player....surely not. #sarcasmmode
