Well Vardy is 29 and people are bidding 20m for him and more if your Liverpool, whereas a 31 year old is never going to be worth that much (unless your ronaldo!)
Vardy has relatively few 'professional' miles on the clock ... no reason to think that he can't maintain what he has just done fir more than two more years ...
If Vardy can do the same for the next two years, has he has done this year,I would gladly lose the 20 mill that we have been offered!
Now we just hold our ground. Wait a few days and bid £25M again Watford get the message were going no higher and Deeney either has to accept he is staying or force it through By the sounds of things we have turned Deeney's head so do they really want to keep him?
This is getting a bit ridiculous. He's not worth more than Vardy! For £25 million we could easily get someone young and really promising from abroad, like Arkadiusz Milik or Breel Embolo.
Whilst I agree, I cannot think of a striker in world football that would actually fit into our team, and is realistic, that would suit our system better than Deeney
Blimey, Ed, that's some pretty high praise! I don't even really rate the bloke, and as said above, there are surely better players out there for less...
I completely agree with Ed - Deeney would fit in brilliantly and actually improve us as well. There are players out there with better stats like Krameric but no guarantee that they can cope with the Premier League - remember that he is a #10 so would be in Okazaki's position. The only other players I can think of that is proven at this level and that can fit our system is Shane Long and Carlos Tevez.
Correct, he isn't worth more than Vardy BUT unfortunately Deeney doesn't have a release clause in his contract unlike Vardy so our hands are tied in regards to the fee we can get for Vardy. Watford are sitting pretty as they can play hard ball and ask silly money as they are doing. Fair play to them
Yes it's a lot BUT: - he is English - he is in his prime with a sell on - you don't pay much less for a top striker - he is consistent (20+ goals in last 3 seasons) - fits into our system - not many do (kramaric) - Watford don't want to sell - similar rags to riches story to vardys - well grounded - supports Vardy but capable of scoring goals too. - captain of Watford so has good leadership
This isn't going through without Deeneys personal intervention imo. Upto him i guess... I wouldn't mind if he stayed loyal to Watford, we are the Arsenal of this situation.
I like Troy Deeney both as a footballer and also in terms of how he has conducted himself on the football pitch in recent seasons ... but some of the stuff written above is a little fanciful ... ... would he fit our work and commitment ethos ... yes ... would he undoubtedly make us better ... I'm not so convinced about that ... ... comparisons to Jamie Vardy are way off the mark in footballing terms ... forget rags to riches stories ... that might have relevance in terms of attitude but has little relevance to how you play with the ball between your feet ... Deeney will not be collecting the ball in his own half and speeding through and past defenders to slot past he keeper ... not unless he starts taking substances not yet known to man ... and he will also not be as effective at chasing down as Okazaki is ... Deeney just isn't that quick on his feet ... but he does have other attributes that I think would be of benefit in terms of the alternatives and fexibility that he would give us ... .... but £25+ million for him is daft ... that would put Vardy's actual market value (on what both have showed this season) somewhaere between £45 and £60 million ... and even I don't think he is worth that Personally i'd prefer we went for Musa or Andre Grey ... they would suit our style in that they are both similar to Vardy in style ... but nobody is an exact replica ,,,
I've agreed with you on this before but I'd love Gray, shame he hasn't been mentioned. I'd sooner him than a Rhodes/McCormack type or to some extent Deeney (not so much though) who seem a bit reluctant to have taken a chance at a higher level sooner. With Rhodes and McCormack you wonder if they doubt their ability. Gray seems ambitious and getting better all the time. I feel he could grow into being a champions league player personally and a local lad to boot
Deeney is not a replacement/completion for Vardy, he is a replacement/competition for Okazaki. In that case would he undoubtedly make us better - I reckon so as while Okazaki works hard, most of the time he is running around aimlessly and his finishing/passing was poor while you can't really say the same for Deeney who scored or assisted over 50% of Watford's goals.
Apparently we aren't looking at him or other #9 strikers until Vardy officially gives his decision - if he leaves that the selling point will be replacement, if he stays it would be competition.
A partnership of Vardy and Deeney would be absolutely stunning. Would be number one target for me. Not my money, so get him in!
