Interesting choice: served a good apprenticeship in France and had a reputation for flowing attacking football before moving to Roma. Two very good years there but went sour in the third season. Has exposure to European Football and obviously big matches in Italy. Reputation for bringing on youth players too. That ticks a lot of boxes for me.
I was thinking (yes it did hurt too) if we on this forum believe Uncle Les et al, then a lot of the potential candidates or names must surely ruled out anyway. I'm only recalling here so no direct quotes but doesn't any new manager have to fit in with the club philosophy? So attractive entertaining football played the Southampton way, with all teams playing in the same manner and formations; Direct involvement in all aspects of the club academies and in particular bringing youth through to the first team; Experienced enough to take the club to the next step or level in projected development; Buying into long term improvement and progression for the club with the eventual target of constantly seeking qualification for the Champions League. Now a few posters have said that several of the candidates play possession football or cautious tactics and other peccadilloes that seemingly don't align with the club's directives. Add to this that the club clearly scouts and reviews each potential manager and player a lot more thoroughly than we do if these faults or other anomalies exist and are obvious to the casual observer then people like Frank De Boer probably aren't even considered or are way down on the list. Now who is on the lists that would seem a good fit?
He has so much more drive than to just settle at one club. What he has done is nothing short of a miracle and to do it playing attractive football as Southampton did coming back up to the top is impressive. He may look for a mid level step in a few years but I think he has the attributes for the United job
A friend who is potentially extremely ITK (like very extremely indeed) has just sent me this message: Rudi Garcia
Does he speak English...presumably he speaks Spanish as well as French. Is Mane a French speaker....only possibility I can think of.
Garcia has been spotted having a medical with an estate agent in the New Forest. I think it's pretty serious.
So can someone please tell me who rudi Garcia is? What has he done, what style does he play? Is he a name that will help attract players? And retain!
Sacked by Roma in January this year, following 7 games without a win. Finished 2nd in Seria A the two proceeding seasons.
Took Roma back to CL after an absence of a couple years. Finished second (behind the incredibly dominant Juve) in consecutive seasons. Had a bad run this from Nov - Jan and got sacked, because it's Italy.
