3.40 ASCOT- MECCAS ANGEL - 2/1 Surely one of the best bets of the week this one and unlike me to state what type of bet I'm having but will be going in pretty heavy on her tomorrow!! Will have come on leaps and bounds by her run when second to a race fit Profitable last month, that was surely to get her 100% for this stable is flying after having a good winner in Easton Angel on Saturday and with rain fallen/Falling it is perfect for her to open up spread her wings and take her rightful name as the true Angel Of The North
I put this horse up really strongly last week and didn't expect it to be beat, tomorrow is a wholly different race than a maiden at Lingfield Park but at the sort of price available a few pennies EW wouldn't be the worst bet of the week. Royal Ascot 5.35 Bolt Phantom 40-1 EW On another note I really want to back Emotionless he made a big impression last season and I had 20-1 for the 2000G before he was pulled out. Does anyone know the vibes been muted in the press? is he still what they hoped or are they just running to find out for sure that he has gone?
Queen Anne 2.30 I fancy Belardo in this. Tepin is obviously of significant interest but judging by the massive drift out from being a clear favourite one would have to assume she won't like the ground. Belardo has some nice form on slower ground most notably finishing second to Solow here last October. Coventry Stakes 3.05 Caravaggio won really impressively at the Curragh. I took 7/1 on him after that. O'Brien said he was the fastest 2yo he has ever had (pinch of salt). It's always difficult to weigh up these sort of races and 2/1 is plenty short but I would expect him to win. King's Stand Stakes 3.40 This looks somewhat of a match between Mecca's Angel and Profitable. Mecca's Angel gets the nod having being just been beaten by the later lto. Profitable carried Mecca's Angel to the left and squeezed her to the rail. I felt if she got a clearer run she would have won. St James Palace Stakes 4.20 Emotionless looks rather interesting here at a yard who can have them ready after a break. He showed real promise as a two year old but has yet to prove his ability against the top class milers. Awtaad got a decent head start on Galileo Gold in the irish guineas while the Gurka won very impressively in France. The form of these three milers is difficult to way up but I'm going to go with Awtaad. I backed him in the Irish Guineas as I thought he had alot of room for improvement and I hope he still has more to offer. Ascot Stakes 5.00 Jennies Jewel looks a nice bet at 8/1. She is very good hurdler who can't jump. She won easily at the Curragh to get a mark to get into this race and she doesn't face anything of a significant standard here. Best of luck with your bets lads.
Ascot 4.20 The Gurkha 6/4 Bet of the week. Only the Irish Guineas winner to beat as imo the home horses in this are ****e, or more diplomatically put, not proper Grade 1 horses! The Gurkha is a class apart.
Yet again it has come to pass that a major flat racing fixture is guaranteed to be ruined by the British summer: the going at Ascot already Good to Soft (Soft in places) with more rain to come. I guess Chapple-Hyam will let Arod take his chance in the Queen Anne because the horse has already ducked two races because of slow ground and the owners are probably desperate to run. There is no doubt that all eyes will be on last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Tepin and the ground should hold no fears for her as she has won on easy turf back home at a lower level. Ervedya won last year’s Coronation but was subsequently beaten by Amazing Maria at Deauville. She was well beaten on her seasonal debut but may well have been rusty and should go well. Amazing Maria was also rusty at Newmarket and has a good chance. Endless Drama had been off the track nearly a year when third in the Lockinge and should improve. He had Toormore (fifth) and Kodi Bear (seventh) behind that day but race fit BELARDO was in front winning and now that the Dewhurst winner of two years ago has got his act together, I think he will confirm that running on his preferred ground. In the King’s Stand Stakes, Mecca’s Angel is too short-priced a favourite on her favoured ground to have any interest; but I hope she wins for Michael Dods and Paul Mulrennan. On paper the clash of the three Classic winners looks like a fascinating contest. After winning at The Curragh on a stiff course, there seems little reason why Awtaad should not confirm the form with Newmarket Guineas winner Galileo Gold as the easy ground is surely more in the Irish winner’s favour. At Deauville, The Gurkha won the French ‘Guineas’ impressively on good ground and had previously won in easier conditions, so should give his running. Is that form as good as the Irish form? Having missed all the Classics, Emotionless comes here without race fitness and will have to be a real superstar to beat the three race-fit Classic winners. Both First Selection and Zonderland are held on form lines by the principals. Hopefully they all run to their best and this turns out to be the cracking race it looks on paper.
Hi Long time lurker Here and Taking a trip to my local course thirsk tomorrow. Hopefully the card goes ahead Unlike Mondays. Anyone have any tips so i can hopefully beat the bookie
Good evening Freddo - my bet of the day at Thirsk and probably at any course tomorrow would be in the 3.55 Warrior Prince which is 4-1 at present. I think all Silvester De Sousa's mounts should be looked at carefully as he misses the Royal Meeting tomorrow to ride at Thirsk and Beverley. Hope you enjoy your day
3.05 THUNDER SNOW Watch his debut. He only got the message in the final 100 yards and lengthened brilliantly. Massive improvement to come IMO. 5:00 SILVER CONCORDE Stays, is classy, trained by Weld. Gold Cup next year? 5:35 FAYEZ Beat well fancied stablemate into 4th when coming home well at 14/1 at Ripon. Has all sorts of reasons to like the soft ground pedigree, with HAAFHD being on the dam side. A taking debut for one so unfancied and I rate his prospects of giving O'Meara an Ascot winner.
Tough cards all round at Ascot, Lightning Spear in the 2 30 @ 25/1, Top Score in the 5 35 @ 20/1, Silver Concorde & Jennies Jewel reverse-forecast in the 5pm. Just fancies. Good luck with Buzz Lightyere Stick, but have unfortunately been told MASQUERADED wins the race ( 6 50 brighton for anyone who don't know ) @ 12/1 though so i'm going e/w, if they go neck and neck i'll probably still cheer for buzz for ya though. Enjoy the day lads whoever's going to Ascot too, i can't wait for thursday and friday!
You can take the man out of Birkenhead ...... ! Have a great time, I'm just a little jealous. As for today, well, the only one that I'd be willing to stick my kneck out on right now is Mehmas, based on what we saw at Chester and what we learned from the subsequent races; back at the correct trip today so I expect a strong performance. The 17.00 on Thursday at Ascot, now that's an interesting race, as you'll see.
Lovely jubbly get in there, due to all the rain in Brighton this morning Masqueraded has now been pulled! Go on the buzz!
If Thirsk doesn't get abandoned, which i think it will, wonder if York Glory will finally get back to winning ways in the 4 35 today, Ruth's gunna get a win out of it at some point this year. 16/1
I agree with Warrior Prince, but I'd also include the other Dunlop/De Sousa combo in the 2.00, Booshbash, they have a strike rate of around 45% and the fact that SDS misses Ascot is very significant, I'll be having a good look at all of his mounts
