As no one seems to have started a thread on this (mods will know), I have decided to start one. IMO Matt le Blanc is OK, Chris Evans is just an annoying noise. I have it on (although not last night), but don't really watch it. Clarkson, Hammond and May are by far better at the job.
Still haven't watched any of the new series. It simply can't work as well as Hammond/May/Clarkson did.
I'm not a petrol-head, but enjoyed the old Top Gear crew, especially when they did their overseas specials. I watched the first episode of the new series, and it just doesn't seem to work for me - they need a third main presenter for a start, someone who is not trying so hard to remain PC, as Evans clearly is. Le Blanc doesn't hold my attention either - whether all of this will improve as the series develops, time will tell, but I think the Beeb would've been better off changing the name of the program and having a slightly different format so that the comparisons aren't so obvious.
The old team worked together for 10 years, I say give these guys some time. Agree though Le Blanc has potential, Evans needs a some work.
It reminds me slightly of the debacle that is The Football League Show. Trying too hard to be something it never can be. They should drop Evans ASAP. He knows phuck all about cars. What sort of twat would spend millions on a fantastic Ferrari collection and paint them all white FFS?
It was becoming an increasingly tired format and ever more aimed at 12 year olds. I think it was failing with its old presenters and the new ones need a different format and fresh writing approach. I think Evans and LeBlanc are on a hiding to nothing as it stands.
Absolutely. I used to watch the old one, and enjoy it, but it became a repetitive parody of itself punctuated by manufactured outrageous stunts and insults. Have no interest in the new one. Would be nice to have a proper car programme back on the telly, Top Gear has been 'entertainment' for years.
I've never been a fan of Evans, it has been strange watching 2 and a half episodes of "new" Top Gear I now realize I didn't watch "old" TG for the cars it was entertainment.
Clarkson and Co. had the right chemistry and at it's best a few years back it was eminently watchable, mostly because it was everything the BBC isn't. The new format is some attempt to rehash some of the old format into a new PC version which will never ever appeal to the 'petrolhead' fraternity. Evans is far too far up himself and not at ease with LeBlanc, it lacks that 'matey' rapport the old TG had and it is something that can't be manufactured. Jenson Button looked a cut above them the other week and putting him in with perhaps one of the Grand Prix presenters (Suzie Perry) would give the show a different feel and maybe a way of establishing it's own identity. At present they're trying to be something they'll never be...
Clarkson has a real talent for car journalism - even when he writes about cars it's interesting. Evans is just not right. In fact he's annoying and like an overexcited child - most people tolerate him at best.
I watched the first episode and decided not to bother again Top gear was a fun show Now all you have is Evans shouting for an hour
I AM a petrolhead and the new Top Gear is worse than useless for me and many others. Chris Evans should shut his gob and give his arse a chance. Either that or team up with that shouty bitch Davina McCall. What they lack in talent, they make up in NOISE. They do my phuckin' ead in!!
I watched the first two, but have given up on it now and won't bother watching any more. As above, Evans is just annoying and not a good fit for the show. For their flagship show, this will probably prove costly for the BBC. If it was ever going to work, it really needed a complete overhaul as it as always going to be a poor imitation of the previous show otherwise.
Soops that post works even better with your sig: "If in doubt, whack it". Who do the petrolspotters want instead of Evans - Nigel Farage is free?
