I take heart from the fact that our scouting network found Klose and Pinto in January. We may just have someone on the ball in that area. And if we can get 12 million for Redmond, which is closer to his real value imo, it will be a very good bit of business.

My main concern is the retention of Deadwood. I cannot see the point of holding on to Turner and Whittaker. Neither were good enough last time we were in the Champ and both are at the tail end of their careers and not likely to improve. I am sanguine regarding Redmond leaving as long as we get a good price. He has not been good enough to be a fixture in our first team and did not light up the league last time plus I get the impression he'd rather be elsewhere. If anyone comes in for Brady or Klose they will have to pay a hefty premium so we will either keep these key players or have a big war chest to replace them.

Ultimately all our current squad are motivated to leave as relegation will cut their pay. I do wonder if some of the new deals being signed have more to do with circumventing the relegation clause as any show of intent or loyalty.

I question how many of our squad would be wanted by premier league clubs and we probably offer wages at the upper end of the Champ plus a pretty decent shot at promotion with all the bonuses and pay rises this entails. If we don't go back up next season then I could see our more hungry players moving on.

Our current squad should be good enough to stroll into the playoffs. IF we can add a goal scorer and a decent CB we will be real contenders.

The Championship is so competitive that I don't think any squad would be guaranteed a stroll into the playoffs. As far as Whittaker & Turner are concerned where would we we get a better cheaper alternative for third choice RB and 5th choice CB than those two on one year contracts? It's like 3rd choice GK - not an appealing proposition to be offering but a position that needs filling.

I really don't think Turner would have much to offer in the Championship. Whittaker, as much as I don't like him, can offer us something as a backup.

I'm really disappointed that we've given Whittaker another year and IMO, more worrying is that we'll be stuck with Bassong too. I'm just hoping that we may be able to retain the services of Klose and Pinto, as if both leave, then I can see us conceding far too many goals to be even challenging for play-off places.
    Time will tell.

I feel certain that if any obvious first-teamers leave they will be replaced. IMO both Turner and Whittaker are necessary cheap emergency cover and will probably not play more than a half a dozen games between them. IMO they represent the best and cheapest options for not very attractive positions.

We have to keep Bennett he's miles better than Bassong and Martin put together.

Got to be worth giving Klose a big bonus to stay and link him up with Bennett would be happy with that with Martin Bassong and Turner as back up

Maybe I have a short memory but wasn't Whittaker one of our better players for us last time we were in the Championship? OK, maybe he was prone to the odd error, but I recollect him consistently putting a good shift in and creating a lot.

Exactly, it was his lack of defensive abilities that worries me!!!!

He would be a player to use away from home, or against Premiership teams, as a Right Midfielder. Especially is Pinto will be played at Right-Back. Coz he can't defend either. So maybe 2 defensive minded players, who are crap at it, playing together, and both wanting to go forward and overlap. Could work in the Championship. Could be quiet an attackive and counter attackive way to go. I don't think I'd want to rely on either if we went up, but for this season.....Especially if Redmond leaves and RM opens up.

I think he, Martin, Pinto and Wisdom all looked (or were made to look) far worse than they actually were by the fact that Redmond offered whoever little or no assistance, defensively. Gaping holes in front of them, whereas on the left Brady would be screening Olsson when the opposition had the ball.

I agree, Cromer. Redmond improved a bit later in the season, but he still left a lot to be desired on the defensive front. Pinto had problems at first and Redmond was part of that, but Pinto improved defensively as the season went on and I think he'll be a force next season and be able to move up if we are promoted. Whittaker can cover at RB behind Pinto and Martin, and at LB as well, so his staying on for a year makes sense. Turner can do a job in the Championship, where most of the attacks come in the air, which is his strength if called upon. As 1950 says though, he won't have that many games unless there's a big injury problem.

I also hope that he has been offered a massive bonus to stay and get us promoted. It certainly makes sense that this should be the case, if not we certainly need to ask questions of the clubs desire and intent.
