Hamdan Al Maktoum has just had two winners from three runners in the last races at Sandown and York, his stable jockey was on the only one who didn't win as was given a poor ride. Paul Hanagan is a nice man, but he got the job on the back of one season when he won the jockeys title by sheer effort and determination, he is not a top jockey however, neither strong in a finish nor able to make up a horses mind for it in a busy race. Sheikh Hamdan has searched for a stable jockey since Willie Carson retired and should have found one by now as they are out there.

Just been round William hill to have this bet
England to win the euros Harry Kane top scorer win / double for a tenner and they wouldn't take it.
    William hill are two Bob.
If anyone knows who will take this bet, let me know.

After the Queen Mother’s Cup, the winning lady rider gets her weight in Champagne. In years gone by, Peter Easterby used to stand nearby and put his foot on the scales so that they had to put an extra couple of crates of bubbly on to get it to balance – even when one of his had not won.

Where was he this year when his granddaughter Emily won the race? Has he not told son Tim, standing five feet away on the podium, what to do?

Given the rain forecast for Sunday and Monday and the 20mm of rain that they have already had at Ascot, next week could turn out to be another “no bet” meeting. I hope that Liz and Phil The Greek have got big brollies on hand as getting soaked at their ages is not a good idea and Tomasz Schafernaker has showers until Thursday or Friday.

With the benefit of a high draw at Musselburgh, I am going with Julie Camacho’s JUDICIAL in the Scottish Sprint Cup (3:45), although the main dangers, Kimberella and See The Sun are also in double digit boxes. Good to see old warrior Tangerine Trees still enjoying his racing.

You might be struggling because I think a lot of bookmakers will view this as a related contingency. They could have tried asking head office for a special price (although it would have been shorter than the simple double).

For example, if you had gone in the bookies on 1st Jan and asked for Minding to win the 1000 Guineas and Minding to win The Oaks, they would have offered you a special price for the double not a double on the odds at that time for each race.

Well, so much for that. As soon as I had put my bet on, Beasley is off Judicial at the start. It starts playing up and half the stalls’ handlers are needed to push it into the gate. He then completely blows the start and the idiot decides to go around the whole field on the outside (where the disadvantageous low draw would be) and drops his hands two furlongs out when he has no horse left.

They deserve your criticism then. They regularly come up with ridiculous special bets (frequently ones used in advertising) but cannot find somebody to work out the odds on something you would expect to be a popular bet just four hours before England’s first game.

Only Day 2 of the competition and already the bookies have lost the plot...

Here, here... her (unfortunately brief) career furthered the cause of women jockeys in the sport and inspired the next generation.

Poor Hayley, being dragged down to the level of those two Geordie tossers. That pair will be fronting Royal Ascot for ITV next year as they get about £6m for appearing on just about everything else.

    It was Stick, great ride.

I made the point on a post a while back that we and many others give Frank a hard time not because he is a rubbish jockey but because he is a great jockey. Were he rubbish it would hardly warrant a mention as he would be unable to do much about it. He gets the hard time he does because he is actually a fantastic jockey who makes ludicrous judgements which cost horses their winning chance, when his only job really is to allow the horse to win if it is able.

A word of warning to all - he is at his worst at Royal Ascot. He appears unable to get his head around different circumstances needing different approaches. He will ride the all weather without understanding that hold up rides are harder to win from due to a shorter hom straight and getting pushed wide, he will ride big handicaps at Royal Ascot without understanding that 30 runner fields require huge luck from the back so best not get too far back and rely upon it. If he rides to form he will ride two from the back and get stopped in his run and call it bad luck, the next he ride from the back again but this time fail to get their in time due to having to pull wide, by Saturday he sometimes works out what is happening and will ride nearer the pace.

It was one of the markets that most bookies were offering before the tournament but for some reason don't seem to be doing it now it's kicked off. I fancied Giroud and France at around 25/1 but didn't end up putting anything on

YOLO I'm in torremolinos just spent an hour arguing with ladbrokes. I managed to get online through their app now they won't let me bet!!! Said cancel my unsettled bets and put my balance back to my 40 quid. And we would walk away. For the sake of 9 quid they said no so I've escalated it. When is a bet not a bet ? When it's placed online with ladbrokes!!!
