Yes, I agree that he would have been a useful player to have kept in the team, but there could be any number of reasons why he wants away and may be the reasoning behind us being linked with other similar players.

Ryan Bennett being linked with moves to Hull, Middlesbrough and Celtic. I would hate to see him leave, I think he is a top defender, if only he could keep injury free for a season or 2.

I don't really care if O'neil leaves, I know he performed well at the end of the season but i've never been a fan of his. Mulumbu wasn't a terrible player when we signed him, not sure why everyone is on his back and wanting rid. He looked decent at West Brom, Arsenal wanted to sign him, I'd like to see what he could do given a run of games, especially in the championship, his power could be very useful.

 

I can see Ryan Bennett wanting a move, and the club letting him. Seemingly no matter what he does, he's behind Martin and Bassong in the pecking order, behind Klose too if he stays. If the club think in any way like the fans do (doubtful at times...) a CB is needed, which would push Bennett even further down. Of Martin, Bassong and Bennett, Bennett is definitely easiest to offload too.

According to their manager he's a good decision maker. I'm sure I remember him getting sent off for reckless challenges and playing foolhardy backpasses on more than one occasion. Nonetheless I'd rather he'd stayed!

 

Agreed. He slotted quite quickly into the MF role after Tettey's injury and aberrations like at Stoke were few and far between. Plus his use of the ball was infinitely better than Tettey.
Time for Vadis to be given a longer term opportunity to step up?

Apparently Tettey is contracted until 2017 now, not sure if that has been mentioned?

O'neil was hardly the future, but I'd have liked to have kept him as a very useful squad player. Lot's of players I'd rather have seen leave and I guess we'll only know how good or bad our failure to keep him will be by the end of the window/start of the season.

Also noticed that Bristol have given him a two year contract, I wonder if that and maybe as Pablo suggested, more game time was the draw to pull him away?

Has this O'Neil thing all happened today!? I just got in from work, can't believe he's gone in such a short time. I think that's a shame, would have been good to have him in the squad for next season.

 

I'd be happier if Martin or Bassong went instead. Although I'd be happy to see Bennett go if it meant keeping Klose.

 

One of the few that seemed to be up for the fight to try and stay in the PL.

 

Can we pay Middlesbrough to take Bassong instead?
