Taking 25,000 to Wembley probably is around our level and i couldnt see us ever taking 37,500 like we did 1st time. But im pretty sure that we could have a lot better try at getting every single school in a 30 mile radius involved on a regular basis with ticket deals. Hopefully the new owners will recognise its gonna be hard work and take some big marketing.
Read a lot of their fans regurgitating the usual bollocks about us being tinpot, generic, a yo-yo club, our fans are ****e, we'll bring nothing to the premier league (whatever the **** that means). I like the idea of not being liked by the wider public. Shows how far we've come. The Barcelona of South Yorkshire, who only had about 18K at Hillsborough for our league fixture, got beat fair & square. I loved how we turned up for the day & were professional all 90 minutes. And we've kept up our end of scoring screamers at Wembley. Made my night around central London all the sweeter.
I'm confident we would for a cup final, when of course you dont get allocated that many tickets, but for a play-off you might have a point. I think we're now of the mindset of "why are we celebrating not getting automatic promotion?".
Which tends to show all the talk of filling a 40,000 stadium every week is somewhat optimistic. Unless we would be happy to see 15,000 Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea "fans in the stadium. Horrific to think what a 40,000 stadium would look like if we built one and got relegated.
Apart from their semi final and the play off final whenever i watched Wednesday on sky at Hillsboro it was a million miles away attmosphere wise.
It's normal for clubs to take 50-100% more fans to Wembley than their average gate. We didn't even manage to take our average gate from last season, so it's obviously not our level.
Not bothered about them, though I like the point. Wouldn't want to see it here. Would rather have a 32,000 stadium with a few glamour games over subscribed, medium ones fairly full and it not looking like a desert if we were relegated.
The Yorkshire Post said 26,000, others put it as low as 21-22,000, I've no idea which is accurate (though I was told 26k ahead of the game), it really doesn't matter, it's ****e whichever is the accurate number.
Well the overall attendance would suggest it was about 25-26k and I suspect that's where media outlets got their figure from..
People saying it was just the day trippers not going, unfortunately a lot of our old school fans didn't show up either. I find that quite depressing.
But we wouldnt have had as many sections / seats solely for us. It was obviously fuller for those games but not half the stadium was City fans.
