http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/lat...-kebab-worcester-hillsborough-t-shirt-twitter There was uproar when a man wore a black t-shirt with the sick slogan "Hillsborough Gods way of helping RENTOKILL (sic)" on the back while having a pint in Brewers Arms pub in Worcester yesterday. Punters quickly took snaps of the t-shirt in disgust, and he was asked to leave by the landlord after scuffles reportedly broke out. A two-year inquiry into the Hillsborough disaster where 96 people lost their lives during a football match – recently concluded that all victims had been "unlawfully killed". Once the snaps surfaced online the Twittersphere quickly took justice into their own hands. Hundreds of fans clubbed together to send the bloke some gifts to his door after his address was posted online. They ordered hundreds of single cans of Lilt, coleslaw and even a petting zoo. If the orders were delivered as planned the reported Manchester United fan will have had one sleepless night.
I thought we had our share of WUMs on this message board but this **** takes the star prize. Unbelievably provocative. How about a bit of restorative justice and send this fellow out to meet daesh wearing a pink t shirt with a couple of Charlie Hebdo cartoons emblazoned on them.
Prawns behind his radiators if anyone can gain access. Surely someone on here has gain retribution on an ex? Would love to here how.
This man is clearly a ****er of the highest order and his 'humour' deserves all the contempt its receiving. But, all the same, its a bit **** that there's actually a law against it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-36412814 Just my opinion, mind. What happens the next time we crack a 'joke' that causes somebody else distress?
I doubt this idiot's afternoon of distress in the pub is over. I am sure it is just the beginning and he will receive plenty more over time, Absolute fool.
There are incitement to hatred laws in place Kiwi. This is a clear case of incitement to hatred. His arrest is totally justified in my opinion.
I'm not clear that this is a "clear case of incitement to hatred", Fingals? Who is he inciting the hatred of, other than himself? The man is clearly an unpleasant idiot with a questionable sense of humour and wholly deserving of a contemptuous response, but to make this a criminal offence just seems plain daft to me. Where do you draw the line on arresting or charging somebody that has done something that has caused somebody else offence? Prince Harry offended by wearing a Nazi uniform to a private party. Many are offended by the unsubtle 'FCUK' branding emblazoned across the High Street. One might be offended by Muslim women wearing the Burkha. How about black people using the N-word? Or the gays community using '****' etc.? Where do you draw the line? These symbols, messages, words, clothing and more will be offensive to somebody, somewhere at some time. If we continue down this route it's only a matter of time before innocent people find their lives wrecked by their simple naiveté. All it will take is one stupid poor-taste and ill-timed joke and you'll be done for. It could be you. It will more likely be me. But are we criminals? I don't think so.
WOW - I honestly can't believe some people talk in this way. The t-shirt says "Hillsborough gods way of helping rentokill". It is a clear reference to what a court of law said were 96 unlawful killings at Hillsborough. Criminal action may or may not be taken by the authorities as a result of that decision. What does the company rentokill do? They exterminate vermin. To call the victims of Hillsborough vermin that need exterminating even though they were killed unlawfully is absolutely disgusting in any civilised place. That t-shirt could start a riot if worn in the wrong place. Would the wearer walk into a pub in Liverpool with this t-shirt? He wouldn't have the balls. The civilised world should not stand idly by and let fools like this upset ordinary decent people like this. I hope he is brought before a court very soon for his stupid actions.
Here's a thought. We are rather good at black humour as Brits. I can think of 'jokes' over dark events in history that one might share privately with a mate but would certainly not wish attributed to me in public. To emblazon such a thing on a T-shirt just is beyond belief! As he says, 'he ho, life goes on'. Maybe?!
This twat was probably arrested for his own safety. Absolutely disgusting behaviour! I'd welcome the opportunity to discuss his actions on a one to one basis.
It's a shocking statement on the T shirt, and utterly contemptible. Having watched the documentary on Hillsborough recently, I still have the flashed visions in my mind of all those young lifeless bodies crushed against the fencing, when their day has started out so optimistically. But for me, this bloke is simply a pea-brained idiot. Inciting violence by spoken or written word is an offence. You could envisage a rioter spurring on those around him to attack shopkeepers or the police, or attack doctors carrying out abortions, or hit members of a religious sect in a community But provoking violence in this way is not an offence. So I don't think it's enough to say that people were so offended by what he had printed on his T shirt that they were provoked into violence and he's to blame. This is the big issue about free speech. Do we have a right not to be offended? In the spoken word, the answer seems to be no, unless it incites violence or other breach of the law. In the written word, it's less clear but curb the written word beyond specific breaches of the law and you are in dangerous Orwellian territory
You know what, I completely agree with you that anybody drawing a comparison between the Hillsborough victims and Rentokil's purpose is absolutely disgusting in any civilised place. I also agree that said t-shirt could start a riot if worn in the wrong place. I also agree that the guy would not have the balls to wear the shirt in a Liverpool pub. Yes, he's a fool. But I don't agree that its a crime for which a person should be brought before the courts. I'm sorry that my opinion warrants a 'wow' in capital letters and that you are apparently incredulous that people 'talk in this way'. I'm sure it won't be too long before I'm brought before the courts for holding such an opinion. I refer you to Goldie's post as he has expressed his opinion far more eloquently that I clearly have been able to with mine.
I agree with Uber and Goldie, he could be told to take the garment off to prevent a violent (and entirely justified) reaction to it, but arrest? Public humiliation should be enough. I don't think we'll be seeing you on Crimewatch though Uber. Not for your opinions on this anyway, the Post Office job is something different.
I wonder would you all feel the same if one of your loved ones were unfortunate enough to be amongst the 96? I doubt it.
