Look at it from a positive, Spurs paid us £3 million to take Gylfi off their hands. What do you say to this Roof?
Well i am certainly not proud of what we did and I do think it will damage our reputation in future deals. We may not be able to negotiate lower fees with sell on clauses any more.
I don't buy that Nam. If you're in business you know how imortant it is to dot the i's and cross the t's. Sharp practice it may have been but any company owes a duty to its shareholders not to give money away unnecessarily and in the case of a football club that extends to its fans. Valley is right - I'd rather have a reputation as a Club that can't be ****ed around and is clued up rather than one that can be trampled on. Levy has got a deserved reputation for being almost impossible to deal with and the fact we've actually turned the tables on him is a good thing. But am I happy we've done it this way? No. Was it against the rules? No. Do I regret it? Not for a second.
We never gave him away roof, we used him as part of the deal for gyfi. We let spurs have him for nothing and that was our prerogative to do that....so a sell on clause of nothing = nothing and after a lengthy deliberation lasting months weighing up all the evidence it came out in our favour and that's good news for us i would say....wouldn't you...
Afraid it isn't me that's fallen on his head if you didn't understand the question valley . Anyone who thinks this episode enhances our transfer possibilities is a shingle short of a bundle .
Money talks and contracts seal the deal if they are properly drafted. Morals and football in the same sentence? Sadly that era has passed. If the price is right people will buy and people will sell. Simple.
I think the only club that this will effect future deals is Utrecht, they are likely to add in the Vorm value, that they think is what he was worth, in an attempt to cover the loss, but as for other clubs, I don't see any issues..............
I get most of what you are saying, as with other comments here, and agree up to a point. However I can't help feeling it may cause negotiation conflicts in future deals. Hope I am wrong. Any business also has the prerogative of not dealing with another if it can't be trusted.
Why should we have any problems with future deals with anyone ? What we done goes on with all clubs and there is nothing wrong with that as plenty of clubs offer a player for nothing if they can reduce the fee for the player they want. Spurs got Vorm for nothing and we bought Gyfi for £3m.......everyone's happy with the deal in the swans spurs camp and that's all that counts.. We gave Vorm to spurs for nothing.......Why .....because he was our player and we can....and in return we had a good deal on Gyfi.....
Funny , just a one line announcement in Wales media on the subject .....still a bit sceptical in the details . The way the club works these days I wouldn't doubt Utrecht were payed money for us to make this one line announcment . If it all dies this way without details , something is still fishy . No announcement from Utrecht either it seems .
Behave roof, it just isn't news, no one outside Swansea is interested there are case like this being heard all the time.
I don't understand your problem roof.Utrecht are trying it on and ok they have lost out on a sell on clause but its not up to them on how we do business. Maybe Huw should send them a cheque for the amount we got for vorm.........Now what is 10% of nothing....??? make it official and give them a cheque with £000,000 on it and they can put it in their bank....
A one line announcement in Wales media, without details , follows a trend in information being withheld is part of my problem . As for putting Vorm within another deal to renege on the sell on ..... Why would anyone pay a sell on clause then .....To think this won't hurt future transfers is another head in sand wish IMO
A one line announcement in the Welsh media is all it is worth as I said no one is interested and if it was that big of a story then the English media would be all over it. It hasn't hurt our dealings at all recently and it wont in the future, if we have the money and a club wants to sell then they will sell to us.
Safe to say that if we were still in the Championship and someone did the end around on our sell on clause on a player we were to collect on , most of the people happy with our outcome with Vorm would be in ABSOLUTE meltdown .
I cannot for the life of me see what we have done wrong...Vorm was our player to do as we wish and nothing to do with any other club. There is nothing wrong in us selling him for a £1 if we wanted too or we could have sold him for a £1 less than we paid for him....Utrecht would not be entitled to anything then......your making a mountain out of a molehill roof as everything was above board and legal with no rules broken....
