    Full Hamer story....

Chairman Steve Hamer believes that the chance to be part of an "exciting" future from the "foundations upwards" at Bristol Rovers persuaded Darrell Clarke to reject the advances of Leeds United

Rovers have confirmed this morning that Clarke has agreed in principle to the terms of a new and improved three-year-deal to being an end to speculation that he was set to take over at Elland Road. "We're delighted that Darrell will be staying with us," Hamer said. "We've recognised the work that Darrell has done for us and have rewarded him for that with the offer of a long-term contract. It sees Darrell become the highest-paid manager in the history of Bristol Rovers and that shows how much faith we have in his ability to keep moving this club forward on the pitch. It is completely understandable that Darrell took a few days to think things over in his head because it must be extremely flattering to even be considered by a club with the history and tradition of Leeds United. That he has decided that his future with us is fantastic because what we have going forward is very exciting and he can be a part of that from the foundations upwards. I think our fans will be delighted. You'd struggle to find a more popular manager with his own supporters."

Clarke was Leeds' owner Massimo Cellino's number one target but, after having one approach rejected earlier this week, his pursuit is at an end, and Hamer is pleased that Rovers can now full focus all their efforts on preparing for life in League One next season.

"Both clubs have behaved impeccably in bringing the matter to a swift conclusion, which was in the best interests off all parties at this time of year," said Hamer. "I want to say that the way Leeds conducted themselves during any negotiations we may have had was exemplary. We wish (Leeds owner) Mr (Massiom) Cellino all the best in his search for a new manager. I had lunch with Darrell on Monday and said that whatever happened it was important that the whole matter was concluded swiftly. I've spent Friday morning with Darrell's agent going over the deal and all that is left to do is for Darrell to physically sign the contract. We're happy with that. There are no more distractions now and we can really all start to fully focus on getting on with what we need to do over the summer. We're delighted as a club and we just want to get on with what we need to do to be ready to be competitive in League One next season."

Interesting to see that the other 'special one' has signed a contract for three years at Man. Utd.

    This is great news.
I didn't think he would walk away from what he is building with us.

No mate! Tents are portable. Why bother to buy a new one when you've got a perfectly crap one already.
