How much are we saying Pelle is worth if we sell?

 

Look at the post I replied to. It's clear I was talking about if Wanyama left. I never even talked about two more players. So as I said you mis-read my post and I mis-read your post.

2 seasons with 10+ goals in the PL, I know he only has a year left on his contract but I'd hope we'd get more then we paid for him.

 

Agree we need to restore depth if Wanyama goes. The question is what level of player do we bring in. If we assume that Romeu is about the level of Clasie, then our starting eleven won't suffer. We could then afford to bring in a younger player and let them play Cup matches and develop over so they are ready to step up.

But if we think Wanyama's physical presence will be missed then we will have to spend big money on a player who can step right in. Which will probably cost us as much or maybe more than we get for him.

It's not black-or-white, obviously. There's a spectrum of "now" vs "later" and the money we choose to spend.

 

We'll miss his physicality (if he goes) for sure, and that will be nigh on impossible to replace like for like. I have no issue with shifting tactics slightly to accommodate the change to someone more mobile/better passer than Vic. Nobody would ever complain about a Morgan/Oriol set up. I'm not worried if Vic goes. We lose a bit, we can gain more.

Different scenario with someone like Sadio. That 'greater gain' will be very tough to achieve.

 

I wouldn't miss scenarios like Norwich away...

 

Be a shame if we get anything less than £12M for him, but I will not be sorry to see him go. As good as he is, he has been disruptive and unreliable at crucial times of the season. The grass may well look greener, but in my opinion after us, he'll be moving every couple of years.

 

My view is fairly simple. Always try to get an upgrade on what we have (or in this case, what we have left). I wouldn't be thinking Romeu and Clasie allows a youngster to come through for cup games or odd games, more get someone in at their level or higher if possible. Keep the competition high and the standard as high as possible (sensible finances allowing). If we can't find that person, then revert to what you mentioned above, which is perfectly acceptable, I just wouldn't start there.

 

I don't think Wanyama would be difficult to replace.

But how much do we really think we will get for him ... He's on his last year so presumably we will need to sell at a discount? So we will probably need to spend a bit on this position to get something as good or better.

 

Anyone heard any more about Bertrand extending his contract?

 

I've heard that he's off to Everton......

 

Lots of noise about Liverpool wanting Mane for £25m. I'd have thought he wanted Champions league, or Europa at the very least.

Sad for them but they'll have to swoop for someone else. He's happy, and besides, Koeman won't let him go.

 

If a club that could offer champions league football and challenge for the title came in with £35m he will be off. But would surprise me if he went to Liverpool for 25.
