I'm relatively young so to some extent the world we live in today is the same one I grew up in, just with a few more bells and whistles. It does do my head in though how heavily kids now rely on their phones as an excuse not to socialise. A while ago my wife's younger sister (about 16 at the time maybe) came to visit us with her then boyfriend and they spent almost the whole time sat on the sofa on their phones, I swear they were texting each other. I got so bored of the cut off conversations I went outside for a joint. Side note to that, when they went up to bed I was delighted to discover that the new air bed we'd got for them squeaked outrageously with every tiny movement, seeing as they'd most likely come to us to get a bit of action away from their parents' watchful eyes I found it hilarious.
Things were tough in the north east in the 60's and 70's. But I guess most of us knew nothing better. Life's good now. Not for some, but you can't help everyone! If I could just get rid of the gips around the greens I'd be a really happy bunny!
Good thread comm. This country would be the dogs bollocks if all of our police were armed and the weather was better.
Don't like the idea of that, mate. I don't think there's enough reason for that to happen. I wouldn't trust them trigger happy ****s. It would end up like the good old U.S of A
Just keep driving round in Range Rovers the weather will eventually get hotter and hotter (sorry RAW) but you're right, we can never change the other!
How do you know they're trigger happy if they've not been armed. Give the Brits some credit mate we aren't anywhere near as daft as the yanks. Look at them riots in France as well - cop car getting petrol bombed with officers inside. That could happen here, no problem. Not if the nugget with the Molotov is staring down the barrel of a pistol pointed in his face.
I think it's a natural instinct in people, despite the training, to have a 'better safe than sorry' attitude when pulling out a gun. In time, when the officers are hearing stories about officers being attacked unexpectedly, they'll start to get edgy. Apparently it took armed response 7 minutes to respond to my house, last year. That'll do, if they are needed. As for the cop car getting attacked in France, we can't preempt that happening here. Even if it did, would you change a rule like that just because of one incident, in a population of about 65 million people? It's a dangerous job, it goes with the territory and unfortunately for them, there's going to be solitary incidents that they might be on the receiving end of, it could cost them their life like it has with other officers in the past. They know that when they sign up to the job though.
I get where you're coming from mate but our military operate by the rule of minimum force and it works well, the Yanks are protected by the authorities and they have it all ****ed up. Our police and armed forces are not protected by our laws, not half as much. I guess we differ in opinions mate.
When I was a youngen there was hardly anyone in the street owned a car, so we could play footie there until late at night. We used to call the game "Gates", where the object of the game was to defend your own designated gate and try and score a goal in one of the other gates..This could not happen today..
So it was better back then on that basis? What about the world developing little green eco cars now to combat the pollution of the old dsys
There was no f*cking SKY F*CKING SPORTS with their 476,982 camera angles, slowed down , speeded up and 47 effing experts having their say on a refs football decision he sees once at real time. Kevin Friend poor bloke
