Various 'reports' this morning that LvG will be shoved upstairs to take on a role as Director of Football for the remaining year of his contract which will allow Jose to come in as manager.

Personally I think that has disaster written all over it with the two of them fighting for supremacy over who does what, particularly in terms of transfers. I can't see Jose going for it either, despite the fact that he and LvG have worked together in the past. Could be wrong, but it might be a way out of a situation where LvG refuses to go, Woodward won't sack him, but we need to get Jose in before he goes elsewhere.

If he wants the job he will.

I don't really see the issue at all. If it happens, Mourinho identifies the transfer target and they all sit down together and discuss it. It's **** all to do with Fergie anyway and van Gaal gets no say whatsoever in how the team play.

It really should be quite simple, if they've all got ego's that can't handle that then they shouldn't be there anyway.

The idea of having LvG as DoF and Mourinho as manager is ridiculous.

They've both got egos the size of Wales, and the dynamic just wouldn't work. especially with LvG being the previous managerial incumbent.

Jose - I want to get rid of some of these donkeys the previous manager brought in

    LvG - you wot m8

LvG going upstairs would only make sense if you were going to bring in a younger man who might need some genuine guidance - or if you intended giving Giggs his chance.

It would be surprising if it happened. Although given how good Woodward has been at identifying and securing targets, Mourinho might actually prefer someone who is competent in that area, even with the ego and legacy issues.

Plainly we do need someone in the role, someone who just oversees scouting and securing the managers targets. I thought SAF would take on the role, but LvG is just the wrong guy for a number of reasons, but having said that, he is known and respected throughout European football - god knows why.

It's the most ludicrous thing I've heard since Chavbus gave Terry the racist a new contract.

But if that can happen why not I suppose. Personally think it's a nonsense story though.
