The full revealing transcript of Paul Trollope's first interview as Cardiff City boss BY: CHRIS WATHAN 15:20, 18 MAY 2016 Cardiff City say Paul Trollope beat off serious competition from two outside candidates for the Bluebirds role Paul Trollope beat off serious competition to become new Bluebirds boss – with chairman Mehmet Dalman denying he was the easy choice. Trollope was confirmed as new Cardiff City head coach on Wednesday, a move many had predicted in the immediate aftermath of Russell Slade's “move upstairs” to head of football role. But, according to Dalman, the 43-year-old had to see off two others for the job before being appointed. It is thought Trollope had support from owner Vincent Tan in his management and coaching approach, the former Wales midfielder having long gained a good reputation for his training ground for his work with players. But it is thought Trollope – whose only other frontline managerial experience came with five years at Bristol Rovers – will have to continue to work on a tight budget with further cuts to budget anticipated. Live updates as Cardiff City unveil Paul Trollope as new boss Trollope will seek to bring in new faces to his backroom team, with current coach Scott Young expected to be moved on from his existing position but retaining a role within the club. But Dalman claimed it is the former international midfielder's knowledge of what's needed at the club ensured he was the man seen as the right choice. Dalman said: “I think the club have got the man we wanted. Continuity and stability are there to build on what we have established. He's been with the club for just under two years so he knows the club inside out, he knows the players, he trains with them every day and we wanted that stability. But it doesn't mean we don't want to build on that foundation – and Paul will do that for us I hope.
To be honest I don't think he was. Thought he done a decent job there. Got them promoted to League One, where they were holding their own until their sacked him because they got idea's above their station and thought that holding their own wasn't good enough.
Not true. Promotion following a play-off win at Wembley, FA Cup 6th round, JPT final and a respectable win record of over 37%. Some may argue that much of this was due to him working with Lennie Lawrence, but since then he has been in demand as a coach and is currently a coach of the Wales team, who aren't doing too badly. He was dismissed when we were in L1, and we've only just got back there!!
