No we need a combination of all 3. We've tried it several times with just the third group and failed. Trouble is we're not mercenary enough, we hold on to too many players for sentimental reasons and aren't willing / able to invest in sufficient upgrades. Long term our current youth system should help.

My point exactly.... Err bradders excepted.

I agree we need to develop the youth though, dropping to the championship should make that easier, looking forward to seeing the Murphy bros and maddison in and around the first team next term

Will hughes is destined for bigger things, I'd be surprised if he wasn't a PL player/bench warmer next season

    Bah!

Timm Klose has not been selected for the Euros. Can only be viewed as a positive for us as he won't be in the shop window.

Or negative, if he has decided that leaving is his much prefered option due to our relegation, optomising our price might have been easier if he played a stormer there!
I would be genuinly astounded if no bottom half teams came in for him. Or even continental sides,

    Bah!

This is a typical glass half full/half empty situation. Positives and negatives to be taken according to the individual mind set. I am sorry for his aspirations but believe we may be in a better position to persuade him to stay until at least January. Of course the same injury that has ruled him out is probably very likely responsible for our demise.

There's plenty of time left on his contract, so there's no need to sell Klose unless we need the money.

To a certain extent it doesn't really matter what he wants.

Except for the assist for the first goal I thought Martin was a bit crap really.

so guess we are all hoping he aint gonna be fit, and then be ready for the start of the season so for any team looking at him, it becomes a huge gamble, so if we are in contention in jan he may stay, it's a long shot, and i think he has shown that he is class above our other defenders, but there is that little hope we can hang onto him

I would think AN and the team are taking extra care to look after Klose and make him feel as integral as possible to next season. Just wish we had an experienced CEO in the office to take care of the likely financial / bonus / golden handcuffs etc that could help persuade him to stay and fight for a promotion should other tempting offers start to appear. Wouldn't be surprised to hear him given the captain's armband sooner rather than later as well. He's key in my mind. Though hope he get's a quality new CB buddy to join him pronto too.

I agree that keeping Klose is the priority. He seems to be a genuine guy who says he is grateful for the chance to play in the PL which we gave him. That doesn't mean he'll stay, but it's another reason to hope. Last time we were relegated the club handled it well, IMO. Snodgrass and Fer were the main losses along with the loan deals for Elmander and Yobo. After the loan players, I think Brady is the most likely to leave with Tettey and Redmond after that. I was a bit disappointed with Brady in the second half of the season and it could be significant that he didn't start many of the final matches. If he and Redmond both leave, one replacement might be enough. Jarvis can play on either side and Wes, Naismith, Josh and Dorrans can all play WL. WR would be the one needing strengthening. Naismith could also leave, of course, but I don't think he will. That would then leave a quality goal scoring striker, a quality CB and a DM (if Teetey goes) as the priorities and then it depends on who else leaves.

We paid over £9m for him and it was pretty obvious that we were likely to be involved in a relegation scrap so it was no surprise that we did go down.
Unless we get an offer for more than we paid there is no point in selling him .
It all hinges on his contact and wether he fancies playing in the Championship.
    Not to fussed about Naismith.

We will also need to know very early whether Maddison can step up to our first team. If he can then an offensive midfielder would not be needed, otherwise I would like to see one recruited.

They all say that but if a premiership club comes in for any player he will be gone....A manager does not have the right to stop any player playing at a higher level or he could find himself in trouble if that player wants to go....Redmond will definitely be wanted by some clubs including ours....£10m is reasonable for him and maybe a bit more...

The report was totally bogus claiming that we had maxed out our credit and struggling to stay afloat.
Seeing as 5 years ago we wiped out our debt and trousered Sky money by playing Premier league football for 4 of those and didn't spend a vast sum on players the story is bullshit.
Redmond only has a year left and Naismith probably has a clause that if someone pays most of his fee he can stay in the Prem, which I doubt anyone will because he was not very good but the players with 2 or more years on their contracts we don't have to sell.
We didn't sell anyone we didn't want to last time we went down.

You may know more than us about the running of our club but I doubt it.

Chelsea wanted John Ruddy last time we were relegated, he's still here...

You're over-simplifying to the point of it being useless. For sure players want to play at the highest level, but based on this season, how many players of ours would walk into a Premier League first team elsewhere? Klose is arguably the only one, maybe Brady but certainly not Redmond. Our manager wants a quality team of players who want to be here. Redmond may well be convinced that a season tearing the championship a new one is a better way to progress his career than sitting on the bench in the lower reaches of the Premier League. Or that if he does that until January, he can earn himself a move to a bigger club.

Realistically, I think Redmond sees his future elsewhere, but it's pointless to say all Premier League interest will result in a departure, just as being third choice 'keeper in the Premier League didn't win Ruddy over.

10m for Redmond. I'd bite your hand off.
