We didn't start well at all. We were too slow moving the ball around and getting forward.
We gradually fought our way into the first half but only really dominated after we were ahead and then we failed to capitalise on that.
It's not the first time this season we've thrown away winning positions by appearing to think the job's done.

That's why you've got to improve the squad. There's a few old timers in the team who can't be carried at the top of the European game. Seville were almost cutting through at will in the end and if they had been clinical could have scored a few more.

I'd also probably give credit to Sevilles manager. He obviously changed things around at half time and Klopp didn't seem to have an answer, although he was limited by the players at his disposal.

You were taken apart tactically in the 2nd half.

Moreno is absolute dogshit @Jimmy Squarefoot

And Klopp has now lost 5 cup finals on the spin.

At least tonight you've won automatic qualification into the second round of the Capital One Cup ;)

So is the problem with Klopp and his tactics?

How much blame does your manager get for tonight, he got lots of praise after Dortmund , Villarreal and United, did he have any input on tonight's game or was that just the players being **** and Rodgers squad?

Totally agree. We should have buried them in the first half. A blind ref didn't help.

Hard for the manager to have an effect on the first 17 seconds in the 2nd half. After that it was predictable substitutions. Maybe some blame for not reacting quickly enough.

I don't think anyone is exonerating Moreno - he was poor - all I'm saying is that there were a few others just as poor.

It was such a bottling performance in that second half.

Lol I criticised Moreno yet everyone is still complaining about me!!

Name a manager who could have done more with those players. He got a team with the likes of mignolet and co to grind through the grindiest of competitions beating the likes of Dortmund and you over 2 legs in the process. Even mourinho would have been worse without a defence to rely on. This season has been just awful but I trust klopp has got what he needs out of it now and knows what needs to be done to prepare for next year, where he will be judged fully at the end of it. I also think we will be 50% there already with new signings. And yes, they won't be big names but we need a cohesive team more than a new superstar new player.

You constantly coming for Klopp is a little boring <laugh>

Yes, he'll be to blame. But I still feel we can't fully blame Jurgen when he hasn't had the chance to make his stamp and buy the players he can fully trust and that he'll think will do a good job.

Next year will be when I think he can properly be judged.

Surely at that point he has assessed the first 45 mins and had 15 mins to explain to his team exactly what he wants'/expects for the next 45/

Don't think you could get Moreno to tell you the time, let alone follow instructions

Sevilla scored 3 of their 4 shots on target. Now that is a typical stat for teams against us.

    Well lads it didn't happen.

First half we looked really good but didn't get that second goal and probably should have had a penalty.

Second half was just so woefully bad.

Lallana and especially Moreno who was awful all game were responsible for their early goal and we never recovered.

You have to say we have history with this - shades of Southampton. We do give away **** goals and have done for some time.

Milner and Can were both poor in the middle. They were out fought and out thought and Courts, Firmino and Lallana offered no get out ball and absolutely zero ball retention.

For that reason I would have brought Allen on earlier just to wrestle back some possession.

We were too slow getting forward too. We'd go long, they'd collect and bring it straight back.

We looked like we had no energy and drive to get back into the game. We made no chances.

Some I think are being harsh on Sturridge, he scored a great goal and had zero to work with second half and had to come deep and then picked up a niggle.

Lovren lost the plot second half, miss controlling and losing his man several times. The real Lovren maybe came out.

    Those who did okay:

    • Clyne - did not do a lot wrong and played well first half. Didn't get to one of their shots quick enough but was actually covering for an out of place Lovren 6/10
    • Sturridge - lush goal; pinned down second half 6.5/10
    • Toure - defended very well and found some pace from somewhere. Our MOTM 7.5/10
    • Mignolet - could not have done a lot more. Let down by his colleagues 6.5/10

    Those who did not:

    • Moreno - horrific performance. Poor header and walked through for first goal. All over the place for the rest 2/10
    • Lovren - first half fine, second half lost the plot. His positioning is terrible. 4/10
    • Milner - overran and spent too much time trailing their midfielders who were already past him 5/10
    • Can - decent first half, as above for second half 5.5/10
    • Lallana - played well first half. Disappeared second half 5/10
    • Couts - offered pretty much nothing all game . Didn't turn up 4/10
    • Firmino - as above 4/10

They saw out the game well tbf to them but we really opened the door to them and they jumped at the chance..

Moreno absolutely must go along with Benteke.

A manager shouldn't need to explain to Moreno that he needs to defend. And even if klopp did tell him, it would make no difference.

Toure wound back the years tonight, he was immense

They created nothing first half and you appeared to think it was job done, both on the pitch and in the stands.

Sevilla were fantastic from the off 2nd half, and Emery must take credit for the way they took you apart second half

Coutinho didn't turn up, neither did Firmino and Lallana. Klopp got his game management wrong and you spectacularly blew it.

I doubt we'll ever see Moreno in a red shirt again btw. I've been saying since he arrived that he's no defender and positionally brain dead, and tonight he proved it with aplomb.

A huge blow to your rebuilding plans that, could be pivotal - as a CL spot would have put you in a fantastic position.

Has @astrotednaut been called away on urgent drug mule business btw?
