So according to most reports this guy is our number one target and we are about to put in an offer. Also Valencia has just agreed a deal with Madrid for Sergio Canales who is a very similar player to Mata. Everything is pointing to a possible move for Mata. But if he does come where does he fit in?

Some people are saying he goes on the left wing but i am not sure that is where we want him. He is a much better passer then Nasri so its wierd that Nasri might take the Cesc role and not Mata if he comes. Nasri as much as like him does not see a pass quick enough. He slows the play down too much and unlike Cesc can't find a killer pass in an instant. Even Ramsey is better in the Cesc role then Nasri is. But Nasri wants to play in midfield and Wenger might grant him his wish in the hope that he does well and signs a new contract. But that is not right and Nasri has not earned it.

So we have a possible problem here and also with Gervinho looking decent and showing good pace and his ability to make runs from out to in and getting goals its strange that Mata should play there ahead of him he did indeed move to Arsenal. Nasri is a problem because he has a lot of power at the moment and Wenger might not make correct calls on where players should play without Nasri's contract situation in mind.

For me Mata should be a direct replacement for Fabregas. In the under 21's and for Valancia he was perfect off the front man. He has the passing and pace to play there. The pace which even Cesc did not have. He would be perfect playing behind Van Persie. Also Mata and Wilshere could be genius in midfield with their passing and the speed in which they pass at will be better then Nasri and Wilshere.

If Mata does come where would you guys play him?

"Even Ramsey" that's unfair. Ramsey isn't to be used in that context. Ever.

Good article, I think you're right in what you say about Nasri being better as an attacking winger. Maybe Gervinho can shift around a bit. He looks like a versatile player and Walcott isn't fit at the moment so maybe on the right with Nasri on the left?

True. Lets change him with Diaby then. Because even Diaby has put in better midfield performances then Samir Nasri. For some reason Nasri just does not strike me as a natural midfielder.

I think Nasri has played really well when he's been used in the middle. If we did sign Mata, I see no problem in rotating him and Nasri from the middle to the flanks, we could even do it in the same game to change tactics <ok>

If we sign Mata It'll be because Fabregas has left andf Nasri has been pushed into the middle.

This could quite feasibly be our starting lineup next Season.

    ---------------Sczezney----------------
    Sagna---Jagielka--Vermaelen--Gibbs
    --------Song---------Wilshere---------
    ----------------Nasri-------------------
    Gervinho-----VanPersie--------Mata

I think you're right about the Mata deal only happening if Cesc goes. But I'd be happy to see that team put out <ok>

    Yeah! Could be good.

I actually think Ramsey will prove to be a better option down the middle than Nasri though. I think he's set to 'do a Wilshere' and really force his way into the line-up this Season.

If that is the team we end up with after all the talk of an Arsenal 'crisis' this summer then i would be happy enough.

Even without Cesc, we've got some really good options in the middle. Thank god for Wilshere and Ramsey <ok>

I also think Frimpong is going to give Song a good run for his money at DM this season.

In some games we might even use them both, Frimpong and Song playing ping pong.

Frimpong looks like a player who loves to defend and break down attacks and that for me is a massive postive, because we need guys who thrive on doing the dirty work. He can be our De Jong who does that job for City with brutal efficiency.

Yep- Why would we want Jagielka anyway, especially at the prices that are being bandied about? I also think Fabregas will be staying at least this coming season, the potential Mata signing could be a way of showing the intent we need to keep him at Arsenal.

Top player and has plenty of pace.

And because of his speed I think he is worth more than the press are saying

    RF - Theo & Gervinho
    LF - Arshavin & Mata
    CF - RvP & Chamakh
    AM - Ramsey & Nasri
    Playmaker - Wilshere & Diaby/Rosicky
    DM - Song & Frimpong

i'd be happy with that as a MF/Forward line.

Fair enough. Diaby is a good player. If he had never had that injury in 2006 he might have been a nailed on starter for us. Alas, that wasn't to be. The thing with Nasri is that he won't take control of the pitch in the way that Fabregas will and Wilshere has done this pre-season.

We massively overrated Wilshere last season, he was a weakness for us often because he wasn't able to be dangerous enough, although a safe passer. That's part of the reason I don't rate him so highly. Having said that, he looks very different now, as if he's taken a big step up. He will control the flow of a game and make the incisive passes. Most important is the way he now dominates the midfield. While his performance against Barcelona was fantastic, he didn't actually have that level of control. If that carries on into the season then I think our midfield will be far more potent.
And that's the step Nasri needs to make if he's to play that role.

Nasri also needs to realise that he isn't that good yet. He just scored a few goals against weak opposition.

I can do what i want. We have been STRONGLY linked with those two players so i think its fair enough to have them.
