Some of the strikers we might come up against this season (albeit some brought on for last few minutes as part of the plan B that usually catches us out):

    Villa - Heskey 6'2
    Blackburn - Kalinic 6'2 Roberts 6'1
    Bolton - Klasnic 6'1
    Chelsea - Drogba 6'2+ Torres 6'1
    Everton - Beckford 6'2 Anichebe 6'3
    Fulham - Dembelen 6'1
    Liverpool - Carroll 6'3
    Man City - Dzeko 6'4
    Man Utd - Berbatov 6'2+ Diouf 6'1
    Newcastle - Ba 6'2
    Norwich - Morison 6'2
    QPR - Bothroyd 6'3 Agyemang 6'1
    Stoke - Jones 6'2 Fuller 6'3
    Sunderland - Wickham 6'3 Don-Wong 6'1
    Swansea - Graham 6'1
    Spurs - Pavlyuchenko 6'2 Crouch 6'7
    West Brom - Miller 6'3
    Wigan - Di Santo 6'4
    Wolves - Fletcher 6'1 Vokes 6'2

This is why in the EPL you need to have at least one 6'2+ first choice centre back! It has always been a tradition to have one big target man to send long balls up to - even if only as a plan B/last resort!

Agreed. It's a shame that Djourou is such a big fanny.

There is no excuse for not signing one of Samba or Cahill.

  6. Arsene's choice of players have generally been ' small ' and young. Perhaps we may now look forward to a change of approach if as Ivan Gazidis has said, the club's needs have been identified and the next defender to come in will therefore have some appreciable height. I really don't know who he should pick although Cahill and Samba seem to fit the bill. If however we are left short at the back ( pun not exactly intended ) there are a load of fans who are going to be real mad......

It is looking like being Jagielka though, who at 6'0 isn't any taller than Verm or Kos!

  8. Yes I've seen the latest too.

Who knows? Perhaps Arsene thinks Phil Jagielka can help organise the back four. That was a major problem for us last year - being organised at the back I mean. A sharper back four may be worth a couple of inches......

It isn't going to help us if we get some slow big oaf, who saves us 10 headed goals, but lets in 20 extra on the ground.

It's not just Forwards of generous height that you need though, Arsenal look weak every time a ball is played into the box, and from Corners/Free Kicks that means the oppositions Defenders and Midfielders to contend with too.

One tall Centre Half with a pair of Bollox is a start, but the overall stature of the side needs reviewing

Yes we do. I've ranted and posted statistics in the 'message to bear' thread.

Some people will never judge our players objectively though.

Height isn't everything, leg power will also have an effect together with aggressiveness and determination. Why not a player of 6ft1"? Why would an arbitrary limit make the difference?

You need quicker ones in my opinion.

The FBs are fast enough but the CNs are too slow.

Someone like Sakho is good because of his tremendous pace

Hypethetically, Jayram if Jagielka or Cahill do join us will you admit your wrong when we concede less goals than last Season?
