You are right Nigel - it's a special place! His reception was fantastic. What I loved was when his side went 6-3 down and the Northam started singing "Sacked in the Morning" he still waved his arms in a "Get out of here manner"... An absolute gent. We've rightly moved on to bigger and better things since our Nige, but what a gent and he'll always hold a special place in our hearts. Mine anyway. Thanks Nige.
"He looks like my thumb, he looks like my thumb, Richie Chaplow, he looks like my thumb" "He turned down the skates, he turned down the skates, Dan Harding, he turned down the skates"
6-4 Yes I also heard Rickie after the Pens.. He also said "We" when talking about the future of Saints!!
Rickie severely dented his chances by playing the game as he always did; he kept passing it (beautifully, by the way) to people in better positions than him. Several times he could have had a shot but laid it off. His lack of selfishness is an aspect of his game that's easy to forget. Great evening, lovely atmosphere and a future player in the making in Sonnie Davis - he was hitting that ball damned hard. Vin
I keep getting Sammy Davis in my head when I hear the name Sonnie Davis. Is he in our Academy? Sonnie, not Sammy.
I noticed that in previous interviews. He has always said that his time here was the best time of his life. We Rickie.
We should have asked Nigel to tell Koeman how very special this place is and he'd be a fool to leave.
I still think we should have the whole Northam end as home fans and stick the away fans into a corner somewhere, atmosphere in the Northam was pretty good I thought last night
Yes, bung them in the corner between the Itchen and the Chapel, the corner that they sell last. They could pop away coaches into the car park at that end. And they'd have to be damned loud to wake anyone up in the Chapel so there'd be no chance of bother over there. Vin
Tough that though as it works better if the away fans are near our noisy end ... the Northam, the Itchen North and Kingsland North corners are pretty vocal too. Tricky.
This keeps getting resurrected and the answer always remains the same...some kind of safety and security issue which would take rebuilding to overcome. The best place (if these issues didn't exist) would be the Itchen corner....near enough to the Northam, but not taking up Northam space. Just realised that would put it near the executive box....wouldn't want Katharina ejected for starting a fight.
Yes, it was a magical evening and a fitting end to Kelvin's playing career. Great to see all those familiar faces, especially Nigel, who recieived the love from the crowd that he richly deserves, I wish we could give them all jobs here!.
What a brilliant night! Great to see all the old faces. Davis' jnr could have a bright future so here's to a 2nd generation! I was in the Directors Box (yeah get me and hospitality!) and what stood out for me was the entire board being there for the whole game, including several staying at half time to watch the penalties. Shows what a great servant Kelv has been but also how much they all care about their involvement. Katherina was clearly enjoying herself and Les was having a good laugh with some of the chants - in particular the sacked in the morning one! He also fell about laughing when the comedian on the staff gave Puncheon a toilet roll as he was substituted
I must have been just behind you! Still haven't found anyone who knows whether Davis' lad is in the academy. My guess is he has to be!
