The award does not bother me normally but the award to Ranieri seems a bit hollow since he took over a going concern including backroom staff and the run they went on, assisted by the rich kids having an off season, was a bit of a no-effort in terms of management.

For me the man who should have got it had to put in the hard yards from a negative starting position and that was our Sam. He wheeled and dealed, changed style, made some outstanding signings and literally fought in the muck and nettles to achieve what he did.

Credit where it is due, and on this occasion I think Sam, and the club, have been badly done to.

I agree, but it always goes to the most successful club in effect, the award is a bit of a sham, like many others its all subjective and often no more than dubious marketing. Even more so in the Arts and Entertainment business, check out the Turner Prize, Turnip Prize would be more apt, but Sir Nick enjoys his annual turn in the spotlight..

This thread is funnier than the Roger Daltrey mishap.

Ranieri won the league... With Leicester.

Moot points there. Leicester were on the bottom last season for almost 5 months but then won 7 out of their last 9 games to finish 14th. Would you have given Nigel Pearson the Manager of the Year on that effort? During that period he had fights with fans and an opposition player and allowed his end of season holiday turn into a pantomime with some racist overtones which earned him the arse.
He is a bit of an enigma but Ranieri, I feel, deserves the plaudits this year.

Sam has done a fantastic job in turning round a struggling team and managed to get us playing decent football and the obvious annual relegation escape. But never Manager of the Season, that surely has to go to Ranieri?

Ridiculous to deny Ranieri manager of the season. Of course he should be manager of the season and well deserved. Koeman has done fantastically as well as Bilic. Sam was great too but I would put the others mentioned ahead of him.

Has to be Ranieri. The fact that he`s upset the `top table` is tremendous imo.

Redknapp, Pulis, Pardew and others got it for their efforts, and given that we spent longer in the bottom three than even Villa, I still do not see how the award should go to a manager who has not been called upon to perform anything other than routine tasks.

The only one who would come anywhere near Ranieri is Pochettino for me, the rest are nowhere near those two.

It's quite a close comparison with Pulis' season at Palace actually, Pulis took over after 11 games with 4 points, Allardyce took over after 10 games with 4 points.

The difference being, Pulis finished 11th with Palace and was safe with about 5 games to spare.

There was surely only one choice for this award and they made the right one..

Mixed feelings for me. I would place Allardyce's work at Sunderland above that of Bilic (who took over a strong base created by Sam) or Pulis , and certainly above Koeman (who took over a very successful operation founded and built by Pochettino). But, at the end of the day, Leicester have been the story of the whole Premiership period, and Ranieri was always going to get it.

It should absolutely have been Ranieri, it's not like all he did was pick the side and hope for the best. It seems crazy to me given what he achieved to say he doesn't deserve the award.

I do think Allardyce did superbly well though and isn't getting the credit he deserves even by a few of the lads on here. He basically did what Ranieri did at Leicester just on a smaller scale and with a worse squad to start with.

On a smaller scale as in finishing 17th instead of 1st?

Aye, because winning the league with a team tipper for relegation is a routine task <doh><doh>

(I can't tell whether you're being serious or not).

What I was getting at was the way he got us playing as a team, made us tough to beat and squeezed every ounce of ability out of his players. The way we played against Chelsea example.

Besides, isn't it correct that if we'd had Sam from the start of the season we'd have finished eighth? Add to that a preseason with Kone etc and it could have been higher.
