Allardyce eyes M’Vila and £12m Ayew as Sunderland’s priority transfer targets

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has made Yann M’Vila and Andre Ayew his two priority targets for the summer transfer window.

Sunderland confirmed their safety in the Premier League in midweek with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Everton at the Stadium of Light, deeming them uncatchable by either Newcastle or Norwich who will now be playing Championship football as of next term.

Allardyce’s troops have impressed in their battle to beat the drop and with their top-flight status safe, the Black Cats boss has already turned his attentions to building and reshaping his current squad as although a couple of new signings impressed, their safety was largely down to the excellent goalscoring form of Jermain Defoe.

Sunderland’s best performers in the Premier League this season, based on Squawka’s Performance Score rankings.

Defoe has fired 15 Premier League goals this season – his best campaign in front of goal since 2009/10 – and the striker could be joined by a few fresh faces in the coming months.

The Mirror report that Allardyce wants to make M’Vila’s loan move from Rubin Kazan a permanent one, with the player himself believed to be favouring staying in England.

“He wants to stay, so one of things we have to do is start that negotiation. That will be difficult, but we’ll try. That is one of the priorities,” Allardyce confirmed.

Sunderland are also keen on doing a deal for Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, who has 11 goals in 33 appearances in his debut year in the Premier League following last summer’s move from France, earning him the club’s Best Newcomer award this week.

The Mirror also report that Bordeaux midfielder Clement Chantome and Lorient right back Lamine Gossama – both of whom are out of contract this summer – are on Sunderland’s radar.

“My concern lies with us becoming a much better squad and starting well next season from day one. We want to recruit players as quickly as possible, but it’s going to be difficult because of the Euros,” Allardyce added.

“We want to try and get as many deals done before the Euros start. It’s going to be hugely difficult.

“We don’t want to wait until the last week in August, when we’ve already played four games and they generally come in from abroad and it takes them ten games to get up to speed.”

Sunderland lock horns with Watford in their final outing of the season tomorrow afternoon and Allardyce could be set to rotate his squad after a gruelling relegation-escaping end-of-term run-in.

I think how we get on next year might be decided (as it always is) on who we keep at this club. if we still have on contract the like of Brown, O'Shea, Jones and Rodwell..that tells me we have learned nothing from the last 3 or 4 great escapes

Brown and O'Shea have to go. I couldn't believe Brown was given an extension last year. I'm not sure their presence adds anything to the squad, beyond cover, and possible detracts from it.

I can understand Brown being given another year as, at the time, he was all we had. The number of games he`s been involved in now, another extension would be pointless.

Don`t know how long O`Shea contract has left tbh.

That Gossoma would bring about some much needed fullback cover
Although I'd be tempted to keep Yedlin if the price is right!

Think I'd rather go for the likes of Will Hughes than Clement Chantome however, younger and also English

Do you think Will Hughes is the real deal? He's been around a while and not made the step up- the way he was being talked about a couple of years ago I thought he would have been snapped up by now. I haven't seen enough of him to judge.

He was injured for a season I believe, hence the hype died off off

Still only around 21-22 and worth more of a punt than Chantome in my opinion

Just had a look and he did his cruciate last Aug apparently. Given the hype in the past and his age suggesting he'd be a better long term investment, I think you're right

Yup these 2 high earners have to go, the experience was good but proved not enough and now we have a much better pairing at the back and they could do with a couple of good youngsters pushing them for a first place spot

I'd keep O'Shea on for one more year, as fourth choice CB. Kone and Kaboul first choice, and bring someone else in at a similar level (my choice would be Timm Klose from Norwich - he's immense) who can easily step in when Kaboul inevitably gets injured.

I don't think O'Shea would be a terrible option in an injury crisis.

I think O'Shea has shown in the past couple of seasons how valuable he can be. Was a calming influence when he came on against Chelsea. Not first choice but important squad player.

I don't think it is any coincidence that the improvement in defence has come about since Sam came and he promoted Robbie Stockdale; both were defenders in their day. Maybe JOS could be retained beyond his playing contract to work with the youngsters with longer term in mind.

Gassama is absolutely terrible, I'd rather have Yedlin than him all day long.

A good chance Ayew will leave in the summer , a good chance you may get him for 18 million, but expect company from Liverpool , licking they're lips .

I watched young Hughes last night and whereas he was a bit tentative (he's not long returned from major surgery) he obviously is above average at Championship level. There was a report that Everton had tabled a 10 million quid offer but I think that went quiet. My home town team of Hull City played better than they have last night and having been beaten twice by The Rams this season they were not favourites. However, goals from Hernandez (don't be fooled - he is too lightweight for the Premier League), an own goal (deflection) and a last second goal by Scottish International defender Andy Robertson saw Hull go into next weeks second leg 3 goals in front which should be enough to guarantee them a play-off place at Wembley against either Brighton or Sheffield Wednesday (who are 2 goals up from the first leg). An 'all-Yorkshire' final will see a blockbuster of a game. For those who wish to have a look at Will Hughes next weeks second leg is 'live' on Tuesday night.

Newly-promoted Burnley are keen on making a move in the summer for Tottenham Hotspur right back DeAndre Yedlin, according to ClubCall.

What's the general opinion on Yedlin?
Hull's Scottish International Left Back, Andy Robertson, is sure to attract attention if Hull fail to win promotion to the Premier League.
I would also think that winger Robbie Brady of Norwich will be approached by Premier League teams.
Ayew would be a great accession who would fit into Sam's style of play.

I think he is pretty gash. Can run like Forrest Gump.
