Gianni Paladini’s proud statement on 7th July 2009 that he had just shattered the club’s transfer record by signing a young Argentinean midfield player for £3.5 million was Alejandro Faurlin’s startling introduction into the surreal world of Queens Park Rangers Football Club. Mercifully the player proved to be far more genuine that Paladini’s statement, and although he couldn’t possibly have been prepared for the chaos and catastrophes that would continually disrupt his time in W12, he rarely ever appeared even remotely flustered; he serenely picked his passes, tidied up loose possession and tackled anything that moved. Nice words Roller - don't know how you find the time to write such eloquent pieces, but well done! As to Ale, he will be truly missed at the heart of the midfield, but if JFH is wanting to play a faster, hard-pressing game then Ale wouldn't last much more than 60 mins if this season is anything to go by. Farewell Ale - it's been emotional.....
A wonderfully fitting tribute to my recent favourite. The club, our possession stats and I will miss Ale over the next phase of our tumultuous existence. Thank you Roller.
I really enjoyed that Roller, and I thank you for that. As we have discussed over many a pint, we are [were] a much better team with Ale in the side. I was always and remain a great fan of Ale, I have said on more than one occasion on this forum that he is the most naturally gifted player we have had at the club for many a year. I feel saddened and cheated that we weren't able to give him [and Clint] the send off he thoroughly deserved, I for one will never forget him and wish him every success in whatever turns out to be the next chapter in the Ale Faurlin story. Loftus Road will be an emptier place next season. Thanks Ale, and God bless you
Nice one Simon. Aside from Adel, Ale has been the one player giving me a link to my platonic ideal of QPR in recent seasons. And I fear much more irreplaceable than Clint (if that makes sense in English language terms). How Les and JFH try to fill this void will tell me all I need to know about the club going forward.
Great piece Simon. You are on a roll if you'll excuse the pun! Looking forward to the Oscar Gobern article.
Nice one roller. I loved the bullying, hounding faulin/derry partnership, the key ingredient to our recent success. Good luck Ale, cheers for being outstanding for us.
A great article & tribute, think we're going to miss not having the Hill & Faurlin Rangers stalwarts around.
For once I'm slightly lost for words. On Friday I received a comment on my blog from Sandra Faurlin. Her IP address indicated that she was somewhere in Latin America, the statistics on my blog suggested Argentina. QPR_ARG on LFWs confirmed that she is Ale's mum, a very proud woman and deservedly so. She loved my blog, but not the title. I guess that my slightly inexplicit style didn't translate well and so, with her agreement, I've changed the title to "Courage in the Face of Chaos and Catastrophe'. I've assured her that we all love Ale almost as much as she does, she is thankful to us all.
