We need to win our last game to have any chance of moving up the table. I can't see Klopp putting his best players away to WBA who will want to finish with a win at home.
Well I'm fine with the draw, but if we scored one we might as well have had a go at scoring two y'know EL Final is where it's at ... finishing 6 or 8th is neither here nor there, it's been a very average season and we all know it Fortunately with Klopp at the helm there is hope and belief now for 2016/17 and a EL win would set us up rather nicely for a good campaign on all fronts next time out
I am surprised how tired the whole team looked tonight. It looked jaded too. Lack of passion and urgency when there is still something at stake. To just concentrate 100% on the Sevilla game could backfire. For a couple of results we could have had the Europa as a fallback position. Now it is all or nothing against a very good side.
That's true. We've been like this all season though, some games really turn up and dominate, a lot there's been nothing doing - no drive or urgency or creativity. What worries me a bit is we've done most, if not all, the damage in the last two EL games at Anfield and now we have one game in Basel to do the same and without that backdrop can we produce the same level of performance in intensity and energy ... boys have got to prove themselves there for sure. If we don't win it we **** ourselves over massively in terms of the summer and therefore next season. It's about mental and physical energy in the end, if they have to play within themselves a bit to get a good result in Basel so be it and as I said above, I'll take a 1-1 nothing draw in a nothing game against the Chavs to do that. Would hope we'll beat West Brom though, but again a draw there would be alright in the circumstances, they're not really a good side but are a resilient Pulis side especially at home. If we lose the final on the back of two nothing, average results though I'll be going ****ing incendiary
That's not quite true though, is it? One gives us a route to Europe and the other doesn't. Barring something weird happening on Sunday, it's now down to us winning the EL. If we do, no-one will care about the league position, but if we should fail on Wednesday and we have no Europe next season everyone will be screaming about how we should have performed better in the league when we had the opportunity. And really we should have. Belt and braces. We've put ourselves under enormous pressure to win one game which is by no means an easy task.
Should we end up with no European football at all next season it could be a blessing in disguise #dontshootthemessenger
Whoops !! forgot 6th is a EL spot cos City won the COC, do we really want EL football next year when we could get CL ??! Stoke or Palace could both get a result against their respective opposition on Sunday but we're reliant on other results rather than ourselves which is far from ideal
Well of course not- but I'd be happier going into the final knowing the the EL was secure if we did fail. Imo, no Europe next season would be a serious impediment to our continuing progress. I know there are those who say it would give us the chance to compete in the league, but we are a team with ambition that needs the continued experience of European football. And of course, it will help to attract players of the calibre we need.
Mastering EL is critical for our CL aspirations. No point getting in to the CL if we can't win it and get dumped out in the groups. EL is much better prep for CL than the prem and hopefully our squad should be deep enough to juggle both Europe and the league next season
There is so much riding on the Sevilla game.........UEFA/Europa Champions, or not...........Champions League next season, or not............attracting the talent we want, or not...............our clubs future in the short and medium term will be affected by next Wednesday's final
I know. I don't really get nervous before games very often but I will with this. I really wish we hadn't slipped up in a few crucial games over the last months when we were starting to show a bit of form.
There are players who think they can get away with that and still play, next season Klopp will want more and performances like that won't be tolerated. I'm sure of this.
My worry for Wednesday is we do what we did against City in the League Cup and just not turn up. If we play to our best Sevilla won't be able to live with us.
