TOP scorer Matty Taylor is being linked with moves to several clubs. The 28-goal striker is one of a number of out-of-contract players whose future is to be resolved in the coming weeks and chairman Steve Hamer last week revealed that Rovers would have the opportunity to match any offers the in-demand striker may receive from elsewhere.

Scottish Premier League side Heart of Midlothian expressed an interest in taking Taylor on a pre-contract basis in January and reports over the weekend have suggested that Hull City, Preston North End, Leeds United and Celtic are also keen on the striker.

Chairman Steve Hamer said: "There are several contracts to either be renewed or extended and we will be looking to resolve all of those issues as quickly as we can. I also anticipate that we will be inundated by agents whose clients will see us as a more attractive proposition now we are in League One. It has been a euphoric weekend but the hard work of preparing for next season now starts in earnest. We will talk to Darrell (Clarke) and see how he wants to shape the future and we will back his judgement so that we are ready to give it a good crack in League One."

Interestingly I have just heard from a reasonable source that Taylor could be going to Bristol City.
This does sound pretty grim but another factor in this rumour is that he has just moved to a house in Failand close to the City training ground.
Doesn't bear thinking about but he certainly won't be 'Mr.Popular' with the blue side of Bristol if this happens.

Interesting comment that we would be able to match any offers Taylor received

Hamer said paying massive wages to Taylor could upset other players so I wouldn't expect them to go crazy on hos contract

We can match other offers but we wont be held to ransom and will only do whats right for the club. We dont want to spoil the team spirit and upsetting players if we start offering offering silly wages. We dont want to go back down that road again do we.

He missed a lot of sitters on Saturday and a hell of a lot more over the season. Somehow though he still ended up leagues top scorer and Englands top scorer too. Personally, I would offer him a 1 year deal only with the option of a further year if he scores 15 goals next season. Its good for him if he gets a big club like Celtic or Leeds for example. But I think he will be just a bench player only and I cant see him being given a good run when he doesnt score. With us, DC got the patience to stick with him.

He's more likely to play for Celtic then Leeds I think. Imagine he could be playing Champions League Football in front of 60k far cry from playing at Altringham in front of under 1k:D

He's done well in a side that seems to create a lot of chances. I can't see him staying if some of the big clubs mentioned are coming in for him. And good luck to him, because he's become a much better player thanks to DC and he'll always be a Gas legend.

I'm pretty open minded about this player, there is no doubting what a cracking achievement it has been to net twenty eight times in a season but as CJS says above he's also missed a boatful of other chances and some, embarrasingly so. If he does decide to move on to a {bigger} club then good for him but I feel if the misses start to out number the hits then he might find that he will become a frequent loanee or just a bit part player.

Trouble is money talks.... And I'm pretty sure rovers won't be going silly with regards to his price tag...? So if someone like Leeds want to take a punt on him and throw a blank cheque his way, I'm sure he will be saying thanks for everything guys...
The thing is the media putting him up on a pedal stool, and saying he's the next vardy won't help!
    He really isn't a vardy!!! <laugh>

Those chances that he has missed, some as you say were embarrassing. That chance he missed on Saturday before we scored was unbelievable and has happened too often. He has scored some quality goals and done something that no player has done for us since Cureton and I dont think we would have won promotion last season and this season without him. But imagine how many goals in total if he had scored half of those embarrassing chances that he had missed. He would have scored over 30 for sure!

Maybe he will take a leaf out of Lee Brown's book and remain loyal to the club that gave him a chance

I agree to some extent, but football is a short career. So to get an opportunity to play at a level you only dreamed off, has to be taken with both hands. (Along with the attactive pay package).
Personally I don't think Taylor is ready to play at championship level? I might be wrong? But like others have said, he has missed a lot of goals as well as score a lot.
I would like to see him step up to the next level and see how he does against some very tidy league 1 sides? <ok>

I think he needs to test himself in league 1 to show what he can do. I will be surprised if he leaves u for another league 1 team. I can see other league 1 teams being worried about him though with his scoring record in last 2 seasons. I just think championship clubs may not be ready to gamble on him yet. Give it 1 more season to show what he can do. Remember he has had just 1 season in the football league. If a championship clubs does come in for him, he wont be a regular. He will struggle then because he is a confidence player. If we dont score regularly, it effects his game. he had 2 bad spells this season where he went for 9/10 games without a goal. But when he scored, he couldnt stop. But during that bad spell, DC kept faith in him. I cant see other managers giving him that faith. I think he needs to give DC 1 more season after what DC has done for him. He was playing on the wing for FGR. DC put him in his right postition and brought him on this journey and showed great faith in him. He owes DC.

That's exactly how I see it captain. If he turns out to score 15/20 goals in league 1 with us, then the flood gates can open for him to make the move to a big club.
It's just the money temptation that worries me captain?

I know football is a short career especially as he came into league football late, but with the club now able to pay a little more than we could have in the past surely it would be better for him to accept a reasonable wage with us score goals consistently and go to a bigger club either in January or if we are in a good position stay until the end of the season having scored regularly and join a good team in the championship or possibly a promoted team going into the premier the following season if we are not promoted

Fingers crossed it turns out like that, he would certainly benefit from a season in league 1. <ok>
