I'm saying yes, mainly because of the fact that without a second thought for the fans they move games around as they please. Games are moved from Saturday to Friday night, Sunday and Monday night which can cause inconvenience for supporters. Financially there are benefits for smaller clubs with cup matches, play off matches etc but witht he moving games situation it's worrying how they can just click their fingers and the fixture list has changed. I liked a page on Facebook today titled 'Football, a beautiful game ruined by money'. Think this rings true with Sky.
im still a teen so whilst im living at home and my parents are paying for it i dont care about the cost! and surely the more sport shown live the better
The question should more accurately be 'has money ruined sport', as Sky just happen to be our provider, it's the same situation with different providers all over the world. TV rights are big business and to be fair to Sky, at least they do provide good coverage of a lot of sports.
no, without them football wouldnt be what it is today, yeah if you live in the city of the team you support great, otherwise it used to be waiting for final score or watching teletext to see how they did. theyve brought money that brings the better stadiums, foreign players etc. if you cant afford it there are other not quite so legitimate ways of streaming sky cough[NSFW]mypremium.tv[/NSFW] cough
Money, if distributed on a fair basis throughout the sport (football in this case) could make the whole sport a much better place. Better facilities for both players and fans all the way down the leagues, better competition at all levels of the game etc. Unfortunately in football over 90% of the money is hogged by the few clubs in the Premier division (and even within the league the spread is extremely uneven, thus reducing any teams competativeness). Very little flows down through the leagues and even less makes it way down to grass roots level where the vast majority can benefit. The top teams become more and more money obsessed and at the end of the day, it's the fans who ultimately suffer
I got rid of Sky just after Xmas. I do miss the Masters and a few other sports but im sick of the football, all hyped to death. Though when i look back at the way BBC and ITv used to treat football they got what they deseve really. Does anyone remember Sportsnight on a Wednesday night? You would have to sit through sh1te like show jumping and curling for an hour to see the highlights right at the end. You need 3 companies showing games, the competition would then drive down prices.
i think most of it goes into paypackets, often undeserved. there are journeyman footballers making millions. fair enough if you can get the work. and somehow english players cost ridiculously more than foreign players.
Soccer Saturday is one good point of sky sports. Always a good laugh and is like a blokes version of loose women with the chat/banter between the lads!
My thoughts on the financial side of the game 1) Transfer Fees. Not a problem for me as this money tends to stay within the game and just passes from club to club, Man City buy a player for 30 mill and then sell a player for 30 mill etc. 2) Agent Fees. The scurge of the game, clubs paying out money for nothing really with no end result. 3) Players Wages. Totally disproportionate to their abilities, the money these guys are on is absolutely absurd, how can anyone justify earning 100k + a week for what is in effect 180 mins football time and 20 hours a week training. This is were the damage is being done and the sooner we have a salary cap the better. 4) Lower League clubs. They should get a bigger cut of the tv money going round, these clubs are the backbone of the english game and mean much more to their communities. 5) Ticket prices. The clubs are pricing out the working class families, West Ham ticket prices for away fans £35-45, for Championship football, Leeds £29, Ebsfleet Utd in the conference £17, ridiculous prices but also forced on the clubs due to points 2 & 3. The americans have got it correct, all money spent on NFL merchandise is shared between the clubs so if i buy a Miami Dolphins top then all the nfl clubs get an equal share of my money. Salary caps shouild be introduced also, Premier League max 40k per week, Championship 20k per week, League 1 5k per week, league 2 2k per week, then the clubs can decide who earns the money and on what scale they pay out at. Another change i would make is scrap the 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw system and award points based on goals scored, imagine a team losing 5-0 but still attacking the opposition to earn a point or two.
I hate sky. They steal all the sport. Soon all that will be left on normal telly will be reality shows and local news. The murdochs need to **** off right now.
I love you so much right now. Incidentally, which other games of ours are being showed on Sky this season?
I don't have sky and would never have it on principle. can't see why I should give my money to Murdoch and his gang, who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
