If all goes well at Everton, and we do take our future into our own hands... how do you think the summer will play out? First time in a very long time we won't have had a DoF to decide our transfers, and after Sam's winter signings came in and proved to be the catalyst that has turned our fortunes around, I feel very optimistic with him choosing the targets and hopefully unearthing some more Kone's, Khazri's, and fingers crossed another Kirchoff.

Not pointing out any particular players we should go after but what do you think we need to do this summer? So far:

    Out
    Fletcher - Contract expires
    Graham - Contract expires
    Roberge - Contract cancelled
    Yedlin - Returns to Spurs
    Toivenen - Returns to Rennes
Dame N'Doye - Returns to Trabzonspor
Yann M'Villa - Returns to Rubin
    Steve Harper - Contract expires

Now that's 8 players out of 25 we have leaving the squad. With only Yedlin and M'Villa in the first team, the rest leaving won't be missed, and we will be very happy to see the backs of most of them, especially Graham and Fletch.

    This leaves us with:

Out of those Brown will hopefully retire, we will shift on Rodwell, Larrson (even though the man is a legend imo), possibly Lens (his heart isn't in it since Dick left and hasn't really featured for BSA) - which leaves us with 12 first team players. Defoe & O'Shea aren't getting any younger, Kirchoff and Kaboul are prone to injuries - all of which leave us incredibly thin. But! Let's not forget who we have returning from loans elsewhere. Mavrias. Bridcutt. Matthews. Buckley. Vergini. Coates. Giac. Gomez. As you can see, a pile of ****e awaits us.

Big Sam has a massive job this summer to do. He needs to clear out the trash coming back to us. That should be number one. They are leeches on our wages, and offer nothing. Bridcutt is doing well at Leeds, so lets hope they buy him. Buckley? Who knows. Vergini is enjoying life in Spain so hopefully will stay there. The rest we can hope someone takes them off us, or we buy out their contracts and take a hit. Then to build the squad again is going to be a big job. We need quality. We need depth. But we mustn't get carried away with handing out stupid contracts to players who don't deserve it. Defoe on 80k a week is alot. But he is worth it. He has proven that. Unless we sign Ronaldo, then we shouldn't be handing out stupid contracts like the Di Fanti days.

What does everyone else think? Should we make sure to retain M'Villa? Yedlin? Where are the most important positions to strengthen? How many players do we need to be competitive next year and hit mid table, and for the first time since Bruce's 10th position year, not be involved in a relegation dogfight?

Please note: I know there is still a chance we might be relegated. Nothing is set in stone until the maths all adds up. But if we get relegated there is no point doing a thread like this as players will leave, and we will need an even bigger job of building back up. And I know we won't sign Ronaldo, it's just a very exaggerated example

    How about crouch?

Bit passed his prime and knocked us back before

    :emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0167-beer:

Serious tho, Mvilla is a must sign on a perm. i would also have Yedlin back if cheap.

Think the focus will be on the defense. Fullbacks in particular.

We simply must retain M'Vila. He's genuine class and he gets the club.

We need a genuine right sided winger for me, if I was choosing, Kerim Frei.

We need another CB as Kaboul is prone to knocks, and another as Wes will be gone, I think we will easily sell Coates & Vergini, both decent in less intense leagues.

I'd take Micah Richards, and I'd be looking at that young lad at Bolton who's name escapes me, he looks like something.

We need a striker, possibly 2, a big lad and maybe a young and hungry lad, and ideally a wing back either side, I'm stumped on these I have to say.

Sam has done alright, in fact he's done superb, bar the wardrobe known as N'Doye who is as much a footballer as I am a balerina. FYI I'm not a ****ing balerina.

I know people say swerve relegated players, but there's some decent players gone down, Amavi, Veretout, SInclair, and about 4 from Norwich too.

It's bollocks to say 'they went down' players have a different effect given the clubs set-up, I have no fear of relegated players.

haha, well he has a very hot missus, so him and Borinis lass and we'd have a nice looking bunch of WAGS ;D But i think we would need to be steering clear of the old guard. Get youth in. Speed. Athletic. And most importantly intelligence. This is what we are lacking imo

I think we need left and right sided fullbacks (first team players - Yedlin if he is cheap enough to supplement these 2) 2 more center backs as Wes will go, and JoS needs to be a squad player now (he will still have a huge role at the club imo, just hopefully not as much time spent on the pitch), a right sided winger, 2 strikers (one out and out goalscorer as god help us if Defoe is injured), M'Villa, and bring through the likes of Gooch, Honeyman and see how they do. I'm always partial to a deep lying playmaker in central midfield aswell. Ive seen Catts try it yesterday with some good balls to Defoe and Jan does it aswell, but a true playmaker from midfield who can pass. Kinda like Ki.

Aye, there's a lad at Torino Danielle Baselli I really like, box to box, pass and shoot, he's caught my eye for 2 years since at Atalanta, but he cost Torino 13, now an Italy player, maybe out of reach.

We need a bit more CM, even though what we have now is very good. Kirch is absolutely immense, but there's always that fear he gets crocked and we are ****ed.

Seems to be ok mind, he'll be fitter as well he runs himself into the ground after 70mins.

    Sam,Sam the magic man.

If (and its looking promising at this point) we stay up. It boils down to 2 things. The yank parting cash and Sam spending it correctly.

Im not a SA fan. But have more faith in him than Short.

Next seasons tv is huge. Gonna be a lotta money spent.

One player I always wanted at the SoL was Manuel Fernandes. I thought he would have been perfect for us about 5 years ago, and he is only 30. Wouldn't go for it now, as we should be targeting youth. Baselli would be expensive, and I am hesitant to buy players from the Italian league as I think it is a lot slower, where they have more time on the ball to be more technical. EPL is a beast in it's own right.

Very true mate, but Baselli he has an almost English edge to him, similar to De Rossi at Roma. Would be 20 plus and we ain't doing that so it's a pipe dream anyway.

Manu, we should have had him twice mate, plays deep now still pings it about for fun.

I love this lad Frei, he was at Fulham did ok but was very young, he beats people for fun and his delivery is excellent.

Leicester are the blueprint, we need a mix of experience - Vardy is 29, Huth & Morgan are no spring chickens.to blend with younger quality players. scouted from europe.

We seem to have a good u21 team which finishes high up the U21 league, you would like to think an odd one of these players comes through.

If we stay up (big IF) then we may have more money - but so will everyone else.

We need to get in a position where the 40'000 plus crowds bring a usable revenue - surely this will put us in a big advantage over Bournemouth (11000 yesterday, Stoke expanding there stadium to just over 30'000) and other clubs with smaller grounds.

Against Chelsea the crowd were the 12th man, lets hope we can generate as much passion v Everton.

I'd love to see if we an get Alonso back. I'd say 2 strikers a CB, try to keep Mvilla and Yedlin, maybe have a look at Giac before selling him.

We have got a right load of ****e coming back.
Maybe Sam could do something with Giaccherinni but bin the rest.

When we buy they must be automatic first teamers and not just squad bulker uppers apart from someone like Yedlin for RB backup. Maybe a youngster like Campbell from Arsenal as well.

For Defoe's partner, could we get Welbeck?
It seems something is not quite right for him at Arsenal.

I would go back to Swansea for Ayew who Sam wanted in January, and possibly the young lad Barrow who has pace to burn and isn't scared of taking a man on. Controversial but I would actually try to sign Mitrovic from the skunks. He is good in the air (which we could do with against some teams) and is the one player who seems to give his all when he plays for them.

We also definitely need 2 full backs and central defensive cover.

Every time I see Ki for Swansea I think I'd like to see him in a midfield trio with Jan/Yann.

Sorry nads but I wouldn't touch any villa defender! They are dire. No heart and little ability. I'd have had Richards 2 seasons ago but not now!

Don't be sorry mate your opinion is just as valid as mine.

My thoughts on Villa are the playing staff have seen a club left to rot by a disinterested owner and have lost heart, belief and will.

Having said that, hardly shows them as up for the fight like our lads need to be every year so you are likely right.

The only defender at Villa I would look at is Clark, he is decent and can play Lb as well as CB. Sinclair might be worth a look too.

Ayew would be a very good signing. I think Watmore needs to be given a chance down the middle, he can finish but his passing and decision making in the wide positions needs work. I think be will play a bigger role next season especially if Defoe gets injured.

I would defo sign Mvilla and if the price was right Yedlin. Our decence has been very good sin e Sam sorted it out, but we need cover for injuries.

How about Benteke? He looks out of place in Klopps Liverpool side and not happy. He would be very expensive but is proven.
