I have nothing to say , I'm left speechless really . I'll move off to another thread were I have a chance of winning an arguement , I realize I'm just one of the dumber people now .
Sorry for making a serious point but I do think it's harder for London teams to win it, even if most London fixtures aren't quite derbies. Spurs have three PL teams who consider them their main rival (Chelsea, Arsenal, Wham) which is unique, I think.
... the obvious counter to that argument is that Man United won it for years with EVERYONE raising their game fior the 'special occasion' ...that said I do think there is some merit in your point .....
I think if anything that's just further evidence of how good those teams were along with Ferguson. However, I'd argue for every team that raised its game for United there was one who knew they were beaten before they started.
Yeah, good point. I'm sure quite a few sides turned up at OT in those days with the aim of just trying to minimalise the damage.
... refreshingly, under Martin O'Neil, we always went and had a go up there .. got pegged back to a 2-2 one year when Fergie invked 'Fergie time' for a 95th minute deflected free kick equaliser from Golden Balls but we also came away with a commendable 1-0 win courtesy of a Tony Cottee too one year ...
'Arry declared such games as bonus games for the likes of us, with the fairly inevitable meek 4-0 surrender following.
London Derbies also cost the goons the title...the got just 3 Points from 6 matches v Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham and only 1 point from the home match v palace who'd only won 1 prem match in the previous 4 months. That's a total of 4 points from those 7 matches for the goons. Apart from a 4 -1 beating a whl west ham did very well in London derbies not sure where they ****ed up and as for chelsea they seemed to **** all season apart from when they did the double over the goons.
I was going to mention that but assumed I would be set upon. It was more our away games that often seemed like cup finals for the opposition. When we lost matches the fans and players would celebrate like they'd won a trophy! Matches at OT were different though. Most teams turned up expecting to lose.
Exactly! As much as some of the Chavs seem to think that they stopped us winning the title, in reality, the title was already lost...
Drawing their cup final aint enough so they need to invent **** to compensate for the worst ever defence of a prem title
Leicester winning the title is as much a wake up call for Spurs as it is for the likes of Chelsea, United and £ity. I'm sure that Levy will have taken heart from it, and will be pushing harder for the title, next season. On a side note, all this talk of Spurs "bottling" the title is nothing more than desperate diversionary tactics from Chavs, Gooners, and Mancs, whose failure is far, far greater.
