Could this be a ploy to make the mittels stump up the asking price.

That conspiracy theory is interesting, loftboy, particularly as the latest buyer has contacts with Ecclestone through motorsport. The Goons needed outside interest in the club to concentrate the Mittals minds, and low and behold, here is that outside interest...

Not much more to add except to sadly confirm that the level of wealth discussed here just does not make for a Premier League contender. He may be part of a new consortium however.

Don't the Mittals do the F1 circuit too?

Could he be the front for a Mittal bid (perhaps even in association with steel Russian bloke) in exchange for a moderate shareholding.

Everyone would save face on the price disparity on previous negotiations but it seems a tad far fetched.

    A new frontman?
    =================
Tony Fernandes to become new QPR chairman
    29 Jul 2011

QPR players 'ready to die for each other' ahead of Premier League return

Air Asia owner Tony Fernandes will become the new Queens Park Rangers chairman but co-owners Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore will remain majority shareholders of the club.

Fernandes, who is also the team principal of Formula One's Team Lotus, has been in talks with the club over a possible takeover.

But it is understood that rather than take overall control, Fernandes's investment will only be enough to see him granted a minority share.

However, the Malaysian businessman will be installed as chairman.

It will mean Briatore and Ecclestone will still be calling the shots. Fernandes, who has been shown around Loftus Road and discussed plans for the forthcoming Premier League season with manager Neil Warnock, failed in a bid to buy West Ham in January 2010.

Meanwhile, Rangers are set to secure the £1.25million signing of striker DJ Campbell from Blackpool

We are now hearing rumours that Fernandes is buying out Mittal and not Ecclestone and Briatore. Much worse news. #QPR

I don't understand. Everything pointed to a takeover, even the club statement that came out yesterday...buying a few shares is hardly a takeover. Hope the rumours Northolt heard are wrong. That would be the worst thing for us

    sh*t.

a takeover can obviously be very different to a change in shareholder mix (e.g. by minority shareholder buyout). in the club statement, takeover talks are only referred to with respect to what was going on back in march. reference to more recent activity makes no mention of a takeover. "preliminary talks", "subsequent transaction" and even reference to the code (which governs more than simply takeovers, but mergers - including presumably changes in ownership stakes): in retrospect none of these were concrete signals the goons would be pulling up sticks and p*ssing off...
